14 horse and rider teams were deemed eligible for the Farnam 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure Stakes last night at the 2015 APHA World Championship Show. By an almost unanimous decision of the judges, (1,1,1,1,3) the winner and recipient of a huge $10,103 payday was RJ King aboard Someone Like You.
In order to be eligible for the Farnam Stakes classes this year, horses must have been consigned to the Farnam Stakes Sale the year before. Looking to win a huge paycheck of your own next year? Be sure to check out the Farnam Breeders’ Trust Select Sale, which takes place today, November 7th, at 3:30 pm in Fort Worth at the APHA World Show. The only way to ensure that a horse will be eligible for the Farnam Stakes classes in 2016 and the chance to win $50,000+ is with consignment to the Farnam Yearling Stakes Session.
RJ King was thrilled with his win aboard “Adele” for owner Ali Eidson. “This win is extra special,” he says. “When we found Adele, I called Belinda Dutton, and she bought her sight unseen. Her pedigree is outstanding, and we credit Garth and Sonessa Gooding for that.”
In addition to her impressive size at such a young age, RJ praises Adele’s consistency and natural self-carriage. “I really like her conformation, and she is over 16 hands as a two-year-old, so she is able to carry herself with such ease. She makes it fun to show. I showed her off the rail to show how consistent and talented she is. I also want to say how happy I am to see the stands for these stakes classes so full at our APHA World Show.”
Because the individual judges’ placings weren’t announced before the final results, Ali was shocked and excited to hear that Adele had won. “Winning this award is unimaginable,” she says. “I fell in love with Adele the moment I laid eyes on her! She is big, strong, and one of the few 2-year-olds that can show in both Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle. I was so impressed with how well she showed off the rail. I can only attribute this to the dedication RJ and Sara have put into her.”
Later on in the show, Adele will compete in 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure, Non Pro 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure, and possibly Non-Pro 2-Year-Old Hunter Under Saddle.
