Could you run faster than a horse? Conventional knowledge would say absolutely not. But, what if it’s over 22 miles of Welsh countryside, up monster hills and through riverbeds… Well, maybe.
The 40th edition of the race just took place in the Welsh town of Llanwrtyd Wells where 650 runners tried to beat the first horse in the field. During the lifetime of the race, two runners have won. This year’s first human winner was Jack Wood, who finished in 2:23:48. However, he didn’t beat “Herbie” the horse, and his rider, Mark Adams, who finished five minutes earlier. Mark explained that the horses are faster going up the hills; but, going downhill, the runners can keep up very well and sometimes overtake the horses.
