PHJ press release by: Jessica Hein
With great prizes, good friends, no qualifying requirements and World Championship titles on the line, there’s a ton of reasons to enter the AjPHA Youth World Championship Show. But this year, we’re adding another: $36,000 in scholarships will be awarded to Youth World Show exhibitors—your participation in the show could actually be an investment in your future.
Pre-entries for the Youth World Show are due May 15—visit ywcs.apha.com for the premium book and downloadable forms, or contact the Performance Department at (817) 222-6436 for details. In many cases, post-entries are accepted until 5 p.m. the day before the class.
Scholarship opportunities at the 2014 Youth World Show include:
All-Around Youth Scholarships
Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to the All-Around Youth winners in the following categories: Youth 13 & Under; Youth 14–18; and Novice Youth. The All-Around Youth awards are calculated based on the number of points earned by a horse-and-exhibitor combo in at least three categories of classes—if you’ve got a versatile Paint, plan to try your hand at these great incentives.
Class Scholarships
You’ll definitely want to enter your Paint in our Youth World Show halter classes. With 10 classes for mares and geldings, up to 60 scholarships will be presented based on number of entries, worth up to $30,000.
Each halter World Champion receives a $1,000 scholarship, and each class’ reserve World Champion takes home a $500 scholarship. Additional scholarships will be awarded through sixth place.
Power Performance Scholarships
New for 2014 is the Power Performance High-Point award, which features a pair of $500 scholarships. This award recognizes the Youth accumulating the most points in cattle classes, goat tying, barrel racing, pole bending, stake race, ranch horse pleasure and reining. The Power Performance High-Point winner takes home a custom trophy saddle and a $500 scholarship; the reserve high-point winner also earns a $500 scholarship.
Superior Sportsmanship Scholarship
Hart Trailers will award a $500 scholarship to the Youth who exhibits the best sportsmanship throughout the show.
Judging Contest Scholarships
Put your horse knowledge to the test in the APHA/ApHC Horse Judging Contest—the Junior and Senior High-Point Individuals will each receive a $500 scholarship courtesy of Hart Trailers, and a ton of other awards are presented to top-scoring individuals and teams.
Boot Camp Scholarship
If you’re new to the Youth World Show or looking for some extra guidance before the show, you’ll want to sign up for our AjPHA Youth World Show Boot Camp. One lucky, randomly selected participant will take home a $500 scholarship, and everyone will leave with insight from talented trainers about how to nail their showmanship, horsemanship and equitation patterns.
