ARCADIA, Calif. (Sept. 29, 2016)–Santa Anita Park has developed and installed a state-of-the-art video surveillance system that enables close monitoring of the track’s entire stable area on a 24 hour a day, seven day a week basis. The new surveillance project, the most comprehensive system at any North American race track, is now fully operational in conjunction with opening day of Santa Anita’s 2016 Autumn Meet.
With over 1,900 stalls in Santa Anita’s stable area, well over 1,000 HD video cameras have been installed in order to closely monitor human and equine traffic in and out of individual stalls and barns. The control center utilizes the best technology available with the capability to zoom in each of the HD cameras by a power of 25 in order to display and record in complete detail. The video footage from each camera is stored and available for detailed subsequent review to ensure full transparency in the barn area.
“Our commitment at The Stronach Group and Santa Anita is to the integrity of our sport and the confidence entrusted in us by our fans and other industry stake holders,” said Santa Anita Chairman Keith Brackpool. “This is a proactive investment on our part, to ensure the continued safety of almost 2,000 horses living in our stable area while maintaining the highest standards of transparency in our industry.”
“On behalf of the California Horse Racing Board, I would like to congratulate Santa Anita for making this very significant investment in our future and in the safety and well-being of our athletes, both human and equine,” said CHRB Chairman Chuck Winner. “Santa Anita has established a surveillance model that many other race tracks should follow in the near future.”
“We applaud Santa Anita for its investment and commitment in new state of the art surveillance equipment and look forward to partnering with them in conducting this year’s Breeders’ Cup World Championships under the highest standards of safety and security for our horsemen, horses and fans from around the globe,” said Craig Fravel, Breeders’ Cup President and CEO.
