The 2024 Color Classic Stallion Service Sale is now in progress, explains Alison Umberger, VPHC Futurity Chair.
“I recently learned that the idea for a stallion service auction was born in 2000. The Central Virginia Paint Horse Club charter was approved in 2001 (name changed to the Virginia Paint Horse Club in 2012) and we’ve been running a futurity program ever since,” she explains.
“New in 2023, we added a non-pro division for the 2 year old in-hand trail and longe line as well as aged halter classes and a non-pro showmanship stakes. We had 85 stallions nominated in 2023 and 60 sold. Offspring by 30 Color Classic stallions were represented at the 2023 Virginia Color Classic Futurity Show.
We would like to thank our generous stallion owners and the mare owners who purchased the breedings for making the great payouts possible! To better show our appreciation to the stallion owners, we increased their portion of the payouts from 10% to 20% in 2023. The high earning stallion for 2023 was One and Only Asset.”
