Oregon Quarter Horse Association

Dear Quarter Horse Community,

We recently shared that the 2019 Oregon Summer Classic was moving to a new home – the Rolling Hills Equestrian Center in Corning, California.

There has been much feedback, speculation, and concern regarding the decision. Prior to the public announcement, a letter was sent to the email on record of all current Oregon Quarter Horse Association members. The letter outlined the change and the process that the Board of Directors underwent. I would like to address your questions and concerns by sharing the information sent to the membership yesterday.

In addition to the below letter I would like to address several specific questions which we have received:
• The show name shall remain the Oregon Summer Classic. The name is rooted in the deep history the show has as a top AQHA show and is owned by the Oregon Quarter Horse Association – the State of Oregon affiliate of the American Quarter Horse Association.
• The OQHA Board of Directors is reviewing the year-end award requirements to ensure that our membership is able to qualify for year-end awards. The verbiage of the requirements is under review to ensure that it allows for qualification.
• Award qualification for circuit awards at the Oregon Summer Classic shall remain as is from years prior. The QHEAC Summer Show is a pre-show and not included in award qualification for circuit awards.
• Our show management team, aided by the show committee, is reworking the show schedule to ensure that show is scheduled to maximize the facility while ensure adequate show and warm up arenas.
• The operations team has been and will continue working with facility management to ensure that our exhibitors high expectations are footing, wash racks, longing pens, manure bins and other needs are met.

If you are a current OQHA member that did not receive the emailed letter, please contact our office at office@oregon-qha.com and provide your current email address so we can update your membership record.

We respectfully request questions and comments be left in the respectful and positive fashion that you would like your association staff to be addressed. Appropriate questions and comments will be answered.

On behalf of the OQHA Board of Directors, thank you for your concern and continued support as we work to ensure we are delivering the best Oregon Summer Classic yet!

Sincerely,
Kelsey E. Anglin
President, OQHA Board of Directors
