The American Quarter Horse Association Awards Presentation and American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame banquets are just two of the many must-see events at the 2017 AQHA Convention, March 17-20 at the Grand Hyatt in San Antonio.
AQHA invites members to attend a fun and exciting convention this year. Once again at convention, attendees are invited to the equine industry small-business workshop and industry issues town-hall meeting.
The equine industry business workshop, hosted by the AQHA Professional Horsemen’s Council and sponsored by Merial, is 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, March 17. All horsemen and business owners are encouraged to attend. Later that day, a town-hall meeting focusing on industry issues will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Convention attendees are invited to weigh in on hard-hitting issues in the equine industry.
While you are in San Antonio, you won’t want to miss the President’s Reception, which kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on March 17, and be sure to pack your green for St. Patrick’s Day.
The general membership meeting on March 18 will feature guest speaker, racing legend and American Quarter Horse Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas. Both board of directors meetings will be open to all registered convention attendees for observation this year. Attendees now have the opportunity to listen in on important discussions during the board of directors meetings on Saturday and Monday.
On Saturday night, the top athletes from around the world will be recognized at 6:30 p.m. during the Awards Banquet. AQHA will recognize the 2016 AQHA Markel Insurance all-around youth, AQHA Farnam all-around amateur, all-around junior horse, all-around senior horse and world champion racing American Quarter Horse, along with the AQHA year-end high-point award winners. The Don Burt Professional Horseman of the Year, presented by Professional’s Choice; the Professional’s Choice Professional Horsewoman of the Year and Most Valuable Professional award winners will also be revealed at the banquet.
Then on March 19, watch as legendary horsemen and horses are inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame at the Hall of Fame Banquet. Read more about the 2017 Hall of Fame inductees.
