Memorial Day is often a busy one for horse show folks. With the three-day holiday weekend providing time off from school and work, show managers do their best to pack in the most bang for your buck while still setting aside some time to socialize and relax with family and friends.
While many APHA competitors are in South Jordan, Utah at the Zone 2/Utah Paint-O-Rama, and AQHA competitors in the northeast are at the Gateway Classic in Lake St. Louis, Missouri, AQHA exhibitors in the northwest plan to enjoy a three-day weekend at the beautiful Evergreen State Fairgrounds for the WSQHA Trophy Circuit.
The Trophy Circuit begins today in Monroe, WA. with Trail, Western Riding, Hunter Under Saddle, and Equitation classes. The same schedule will repeat on Sunday with the addition of several added money futurities like All Breed/All Ages Trail Jackpot, Three-Year-Old Western Pleasure with $500 added money (sponsored by The Hat Lady), and Three-Year-Old Non Pro Western Pleasure with $500 added money (sponsored by The Red Pony Insurance). Classes on Saturday and Monday will include Halter, Showmanship, Western Pleasure, and Horsemanship. This event is also a 2015 Novice Championship qualifying show.
Judges for Friday/Saturday- Clint Fullerton, Suzy Jeane, Andrea Simons
Judges for Saturday/Sunday– Gigi Bailey, Stephanie Lynn, Bruce Walquist
Because it’s Memorial Day weekend, the Washington State Quarter Horse Association has plenty of fun social events planned!
Last night, there was an Exhibitor’s Welcome Party sponsored by Three Ring Farm. Also, yesterday evening, the WSQHA Youth World Show Team hosted a Dine Out Fundraiser at Tuscano’s Italian Kitchen from 5:00-9:00 pm where 20% of each diner’s bill was donated to the youth organization!
Tonight, Kip Larson and Michael Davis have sponsored a Fiesta Friday Night Party. On Saturday, Paige Stroud Performance Horses and Evergreen Equine Veterinary Practice will sponsor the Saturday Baked Potato Feed. Also, a daily hospitality tent is being sponsored by Pilchuck Veterinary. Be sure not to miss the daily Equi Yoga and Ride Fit demonstrations. On Sunday, at 1:00 pm, there will be an Equine Acupuncture demonstration by Dr. Taryn Rathbone.
Champion Amateur, Select, Novice Amateur, Youth 13 and Under, Youth 14-18, Novice Youth, Walk-Trot, and Open competitors will each receive a $100 gift card to Schneiders and an Equus Western Saddle Bag. Reserve Champions will receive custom lap quilts. Circuit awards will be awarded in every class!
