The First Section, First Go of the Open NRHA Derby is in the Books, Non Pro Finals Draw is Set
Oklahoma City, Okla., June 22, 2015 – The 2015 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby held its fifth day of competition on June 24 including the first go, first section of the $395,000 est. Open Derby, plus ancillary classes for non pro riders.
Jordan Larson (Whitesboro, Texas, $2,044,508 NRHA LTE) quickly took the lead in the NRHA Level 4 Open Derby first section of the first go-round with a smoldering 224.5 aboard Steppin On Sparks (Jacs Electric Spark x Mahoganys First Step). Steppin On Sparks is a 2009 stallion with $83,553 NRHA LTE, is owned by HDC Quarter Horses and was nominated by Cinder Lakes Ranch.
The second high score of the day in the Level 4 Open was snagged by Andrea Fappani (Scottsdale, Ariz., $4,021,064 NRHA LTE). Fappani aboard SG Frozen Enterprize (Frozen Sailor x RS Rose SJ) cruised to a score of 222.5. SG Frozen Enterprize is a 2009 stallion with $229,624 NRHA LTE, is owned by Silver Spurs Equine and was nominated by Marco Franchini.
Earning the third high score of the day with a 222 was Marco Ricotta (Scottsdale, Ariz., $461,904 NRHA LTE) aboard Whizzen For Chex (Topsail Whiz x Dun It For Chex). Whizzen For Chex is a 2011 mare with $57,189 NRHA LTE, is owned by Rancho Oso Rio LLC and was nominated by Oldenburg Farm LLC.

Thursday will start at 8 a.m. in Coliseum with the second section of first go-round of the $395,000 est. Open Derby. The Adequan Championship Arena starts at 9 a.m. with ancillary classes including the Western Individual Finals in Varsity Open Reining, Varsity Intermediate Reining and Future Intermediate Reining. In addition, there will be Varsity Intermediate, Future Novice, JV Novice, Future Beginner, JV Beginner, Varsity Open and Future Intermediate, which will be followed by the IEA awards.
At 5:30 p.m. Platinum Performance will be hosting the Open Draw Party Reception with the open draw to follow at 6 p.m. in the Barn 3 Sale Arena.
