2015 Little Futurity Concludes Crowning Big Winners in Green, Reams, Chown, Roberts, Puthoff, Willis and Many More

Congratulations goes to the winner of the Non Pro 3 and Over $7,500 Limited Horse Western Pleasure slot class this evening at the ‪#‎TheLittleFuturity‬, Courtney Chown with Chum Machine, taking home $9,248! The Reserve Champion was Jessica Olsen Groome with She Sure Is Hot.

The 11th annual Little Futurity concluded last night in Raleigh, North Carolina after a four-day run by crowning big winners in multiple signature and slot classes. Judging the event was Karen Watters, Buddy Fisher, Scott Neuman, Bruce Walquist, Tom Robertson, and Robin Frid.

While the largest class sizes were seen in Western Pleasure Futurities and slot classes, there was a notable increase in Trail classes as well.

  • NSBA 3-Year-Old Limited Non Pro Western Pleasure- 15
  • Southern Oaks 3 and 4-Year-Old Novice Horse Western Pleasure- 16
  • Non Pro Trail- 17
  • NSBA Maturity Ltd. Non Pro Western Pleasure- 17
  • NSBA Maturity $2,500 Ltd. Horse Open Western Pleasure- 17
  • NSBA Maturity $2,500 Rider Open Western Pleasure- 19
  • NSBA 3-Year-Old Limited Open Western Pleasure- 20

Both Gale and Larry Little were thrilled with the turnout and participation this year.

“We continue to be amazed at the quality and talent of the exhibitors and their great horses,” Gale Little says. “Even though the weather was pretty hot, everyone’s attitudes and enthusiasm were very positive throughout the competition. We were overwhelmed, but not surprised, by the support of the horse show family for the Heart of Stone Foundation and the Pope family. I can not say enough about their generosity.”

stoneIn honor of the late son of Holt Graham Pope and Shane Pope, Stone Pope, 15 horse and rider teams competed in the Heart of Stone Memorial Western Pleasure class. The event was open to all ages, all divisions with an entry fee of $100. All proceeds went to the Heart of Stone Foundation. The winner was Deanna Green aboard Best Seat In The House. Later that evening, the Kimmel Family of Ohio donated their horse, “Moondog,” to be auctioned off in the hopes of raising more funds. In total, $17,000 was raised.

There was a tie for the top spot in the Southern Oaks $1,000 Novice Horse Western Pleasure slot class between Stephen Reams riding SouthernComfortZone for owner Wesley Smith and Rusty Green riding Momma Knows Best for Capitol Quarter Horses. Green won the overall tiebreaker and was crowned the champion. Both received $9,028 for their performances.

NSBA 3-Year-Old Non Pro Western Pleasure winner- Hillary Roberts and For One Night Only

Hillary Roberts of Capitol Quarter Horses took to the pen aboard For One Night Only to win the NSBA 3-Year-Old Non Pro Western Pleasure. The Reserve Champion was Megan Hawkins aboard Extremely Dark Chip. The NSBA 3-Year-Old Limited Open Western Pleasure class saw a whopping 20 entries. Claiming the top spot was Pasley Puthoff with Extremely Dark Chip. The team received $716.80. Gregory Johnson rode No Doubt Im Trouble to win the second place spot earning $492.80 for Capitol Quarter Horses.

Casey Willis rode KM Invited By Bo to a win in the NSBA Maturity $2,500 Ltd. Open Western Pleasure for owner Masterson Farms, LLC. Cole Baker and Consider Me Best took the second place spot for Jean Brooks. The teams received $649.60 and $446.60 respectively. Rebecca Spellman and Miss Hotroddin Pine won the NSBA Maturity $2,500 Rider Open Western Pleasure for owner Diane Marra Williams. Ryan Small claimed second place with Sinners Like Me for owner Big Rock Farms LLC.

Rusty Green returned to the pen aboard For One Night Only to win the NSBA Open 3-Year-Old Western Pleasure and a $1,190 payday. Second place was Gil Galyean with How Bout At Midnight for Fritz Leeman, earning $945. Lindsey McMullen rode Good Money Machine to a win in the NSBA 3-Year-Old Ltd. Non Pro Western Pleasure. Coming in second was Marlee Sheriff White with Baby Im Comin For U.

Last night’s main event was the Non-Pro 3 and Over $7,500 slot class, which was won by Courtney Chown aboard Chum Machine. The pair earned $9,248. Coming in Reserve was Jessica Olsen Groome with She Sure is Hot, winning $7,344.

Southern Oaks $1,000 Novice Horse Western Pleasure slot winner- Rusty Green and Momma Knows Best

Troy Lehn rode A Chrome Cookie to a win in Green Trail for owner Alexandra Chavez earning $308 for a score of 225.5. The Reserve Champion was Michael Colvin riding Only Afraid In The Dark for owner Cathrin Gutmann with a score of 223.5. Jane Sutcliff scored a huge 226 aboard her horse PF Put It In Park to win the Non Pro Trail. The Reserve Champion was Caroline Cavallo with Huntin The Blues. The Open Trail class was won by Tommy Sheets aboard Ima Tuff Barpasser for owner Ida Stinson (226). Sheets also placed second with Zippo Lightair (223.5), tied for fourth with Don’t I Look Good (221.5) and Huntin The Blues (221.5), and sixth with Zippos Hot Jet (220).
