In 2013, the final stall count for the Martinganza Quarter Horse Show and Futurity topped out at 196 stalls, and entries dwindled to less than 400 due to sudden snow and bitter temperatures that plagued North Carolina in February. However, moving the show to early April seemed to be just the ticket for a boost in entry numbers and a surge of exhibitor participation.
Martinganza representative, Susan Daniels, confirms that more than 450 stalls were sold during the 2014 event, and entries more than doubled to 1,000+ entries per horse show.
“We had a really GREAT show, and the exhibitors were real troopers with the long days,” Daniels says. “We had over 1,000 AQHA/NSBA combined entries per show, and that is AWESOME! We had to split Novice Youth Hunter Under Saddle, and that’s a first for us!”
The 2014 event far exceeded initial expectations of show management and exhibitors; so much so, that many competitors made it a point to reserve stalls for next year’s 2015 show before heading home on Sunday evening.
Here’s a brief breakdown that lists entry numbers for some of the largest classes held during the show.
