$90,000+ in Cash and Prizes, Three and Over Novice Wp Slot Class, Trailer Giveaway, and Much More

By: Brittany Bevis

Are you ready for March Madness! No, we’re not talking about basketball. In a just-before-the-buzzer substitution, the Southern Ohio Quarter Horse Association has renamed their popular SOQHA Winter Circuit the SOQHA Madness in March show. Why, you might ask?

According to SOQHA President Judd Paul, the new name more accurately reflects the show’s astonishing turnout in 2013.

“Our show changed its name to Madness in March, because that’s exactly what is was last year,” Paul says. “We had a fantastic show.”

“Last year, we were at about 470 stalls. The Roberts Arena holds 525 stalls. Entries were over 5,500 total. Absolutely there will be an increase [this year]. Folks are reserving from Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Everyone is talking about it. We’re getting stall forms in everyday. We’re anticipating a sell out.”

The 2014 Madness in March is scheduled to take place March 27-30 at the Roberts Arena in Wilmington, Ohio. With the return of the popular Three and Over Novice Horse Western Pleasure slot class, trailer giveaway, over $6,000 in NSBA classes, and cash and prizes totaling $90,000+, the event is sure to be a slam dunk.

The main highlight of the show schedule is the Three and Over Novice Horse Western Pleasure which will present a $15,000 check to the winner. An additional $5,500 in bonuses will be available for the top two placing maiden horses and limited riders. The payback schedule is as follows: 2nd- $7,500, 3rd- $5,000, 4th- $3,500, 5th- $2,500, 6th- $1,500. An entry fee of $1,500 is due by March 1st. Competitors may enter at the show by noon on March 28th for $2,500.

“The decision to have a Novice slot class was for the exhibitors,” Paul says. “I asked what kind of class everyone wanted. The answer was a Novice horse slot class. We added bonus monies for the top two placing maiden horses as well as the top two limited riders. Last year, we had 19 entries, a great group of horses. We gave out checks at the horse show for the slot class as well.”

With help from the new official SOQHA Trailer Sponsor, Kiefer Mfg., the show will be awarding one year’s use of a three-horse gooseneck trailer in a random drawing for all show exhibitors during the Novice horse slot class on Saturday, March 29th.

Even if you don’t plan on participating in the Novice slot class, there will be plenty of other chances to win some incredible prizes and cold, hard cash. Southern Belle Futurity classes will be held throughout the show and over $6,000 will be up for grabs in NSBA classes. All-Around winners will receive laptop computers. Reserve All-Around winners will receive SOQHA personalized corn hole games, which have been sponsored by dac Products. Circuit champions will receive jackets and there will be daily second chance giveaways of flat screen TVs and Android tablets.

In addition, Paul let us in on a little surprise that will have all exhibitors practicing their shooting skills.

“To kind of go with the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament, the Madness In March will be having a shoot for cash,” he says. ” We will have a basketball hoop where random exhibitors will shoot for cash each day. Also, during our slot class, a slot exhibitor will shoot for $1,000.”
