“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…” but in Perry, Georgia this weekend AQHA competitors are being treated to slightly warmer temperatures. The 2014 GQHA Classic kicked off yesterday to great weather, with highs in the 70s and upper 60s predicted throughout the weekend, and great entry numbers that are expected to rise when the weekend portion of the show begins.
A great line-up of judges have been rounded up for the show including Brent Maxwell, Chad Evans, Brent Tincher, Clint Fullerton, Garth Gooding, and David Denniston. Exhibitors began yesterday competing in Trail, Horsemanship, and Western Pleasure classes. Today, the schedule will continue with Pleasure Driving, Hunter Under Saddle, Equitation, Western Riding, Ranch Horse Pleasure, Reining and Speed classes.
Because of the new schedule instituted this year, those competing in Speed classes will run twice today with back-to-back runs, and those competing in Halter will show only once on Saturday.
Apparently, the new schedule has been met with approval by competitors which is showing up in sizeable class entries and an increase in stall numbers over 100 from last year. Yesterday, the Green/Level 1 Trail concluded with 30 entries, Novice Amateur Trail with three points, Amateur Trail with two points, Select Trail with three points, and Senior Trail with five points. This morning, the show began bright and early at 8:00 am with a five-head Pleasure Driving class, a new class added to the show this year.
Stalls are still available for those considering hauling in for just the weekend portion of the show. See MarkHarrellHorseShows.com for details.
Stay tuned to EquineChronicle.com for complete results coming at the conclusion of the show. Special thanks to Lisa Lee for providing some great photos from Day 1 of the competition.
