The 2014 American Royal Quarter Horse show is a wrap with a whopping 4,300+ entries being recorded by show management across all divisions! The event took place over the weekend in Kansas City, Missouri with judges including Charlene Carter, Robin Frid, Brad Jewett, Sissy Anderson, Judd Paul, and John Boxell.

The newly reorganized schedule included split classes for Junior and Senior Trail, Junior and Senior Western Riding, and the addition of Yearling Longeline. Also, the new format allowed halter exhibitors to track once and be inspected twice by all six judges. For those not able to make the trip, the live feed provided by iEquine.com was a huge hit.

Some the largest class sizes included Amateur Showmanship with 17, Performance Halter Geldings with 17, Amateur Horsemanship with 17, L1 Trail with 18, Amateur Select Western Pleasure with 19, Senior Trail with 20, and L1 Western Pleasure with 24.

On Thursday evening, competitors and spectators were treated to a Hamburger Cookout hosted by Mid Rivers Equine Centre. The mane event took place on Friday evening when 13 groups faced off in a fun culinary competition for the opportunity to be named the American Royal’s Most Spectacular Host. Each barn served a dish of their choice, ranging from Janssen Training Stables’ Pork Tamales and Koneche Performance Horses’ Nacho Bar to Jon Barry Training Stables’ Cookie and Cupcake Bar. The scantily clad “hula girl” server was certainly a huge hit at Mike Tivoli’s Frozen Margarita Station!

Mark Harrell Horse Show Management reports that this year’s American Royal Feast was the best attended and most delicious they’ve ever had. Following with tradition, the “Most Spectacular Host” received a beautiful crystal trophy. Check out the menu below.
