2013 World Wide Paint Horse Congress Recap: Est. 2,000 Entries From 22 States

Filed under: Club & Show News |

Owners, exhibitors and Paint Horses from twenty-two states converged on Kansas City, Missouri, and the American Royal Complex for the 2013 World Wide Paint Horse Congress, July 31 – August 4.

Per Casey West and Greg Tambke, Congress Co-Chairs, “We had another great event, which included quite a few new exhibitors, and the feedback has been very positive. We can’t thank our exhibitors enough for supporting the Congress and look forward to seeing them again in 2014, Wednesday, July 30 – Sunday, August 3.”

Official APHA entry numbers have not yet been verified or published but preliminary information reflects some 2,000 total entries with the largest class being thirty-two in Amateur Senior Geldings.

“We made a major schedule change this year,” stated Show Manager Bryan Bergeson. “We moved the Trail classes to ‘at will blocks,’ set it up in a separate arena and cleared those classes from the show schedule. Our twelve judges scored a total of 281 trail entries. We were pleased to see the entries in the Amateur Walk-Trot classes increase. The race for Congress High Point in that division came down to the wire!”

For the first time, the schedule included a Freestyle Showmanship class, which was a big crowd pleaser. Meri McKillips-Lemay was selected to judge this event. Not only did she judge, she participated in the antics of the exhibitors. The Charity Walk Trot Western Pleasure class benefitted Kansas City’s Children’s Mercy Hospital and clinics and featured awards from Cowboy Bronze, Schneider’s and the Congress Committee.

In addition to the Exhibitors’ Appreciation BBQ sponsored by Transwest Trailers, Brookwood Farms, Spell Show Horses and the Casey West family, Gralla Farms/Populous sponsored an Exhibitors’ Social on Thursday evening.

“Our Trade Show vendor and sponsor support continues to be outstanding,” says John Dunn and Clea Bobbitt. Ford Farms and The Big Sensation joined the Congress team this year as did Barbara’s Custom Hats, Ray Logan Boots and More, Robert Dehn and Limelite Show Horses.
