2013 NRHA Futurity Update- Dec. 2nd

NRHA press release by Mary Frances Flanders – The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) hosts the Adequan North American Affiliate Championships each year during the NRHA Futurity in Oklahoma City. The championships are for NRHA members and horses that have qualified through their respective Regional Affiliate Finals. Each finals sends its eight highest placing riders, plus ties, to the Adequan NAAC to compete for North American bragging rights. NRHA congratulates the following champions that already have been crowned during the show.

The Whiz Way and Archer – Adequan NAAC Open Champions

South Central region representatives The Whiz Way (Topsail Whiz x Dun It The Hard Way) and NRHA Professional Stephen Archer marked a staggering 223 to take championship honors in the Adequan NAAC Open class. The 2002 gelding, who has earned more than $45,000 in NRHA competition, is owned by Candace Rodriguez of Richmond, Texas.

The South Central region’s Wimpys Lil Hollywood (owned by Christine Harbach of Spring Branch, Texas) and NRHA Professional Todd Martin took reserve honors with a 221.5. Wimpys Lil Hollywood, who has earned more than $23,000, is by Wimpys Little Step and out of the Topsail Whiz mare Miss Hollywood Whiz.

Load Your Gun and Hanson – Adequan NAAC Intermediate Open Champions
The Northwest region was represented well with Load Your Gun (Gunner x Jo Ell Smoke) and NRHA Professional David Hanson(Clements, Calif.). The talented pair earned a 220 from the judges and the championship title in the Adequan NAAC Intermediate Open. Giselle Turchet owns the 2007 gelding.

The reserve championship title was earned by NRHA Professional Matthew McDowell (Enterprise, Ore.) riding Miss Silver Gun (Gunner x Miss Taris Rey) with a score of 219.5. Tamarack Ranch LLC’s mare who represented the Northwest region has earned more than $78,000 in her NRHA career.

Starbucks Jazz and Edgmon – Adequan NAAC Limited Open Champions
South Central region representatives Starbucks Jazz (Smart Starbuck x Flipped Out Jazz, $115,000 NRHA LTE) and Tell Edgmon(Elmore City, Okla.) had a fantastic run that not only earned them a 221.5 from the judges but also championship honors in the Adequan NAAC Limited Open class. The 2003 stallion is owned by Whitney Conrad of Weatherford, Texas.

The North Central region’s Roosta (owned by John Anderson of Plainview, Neb.) and Serena Siebrandt (Clarkson, Neb.) took reserve honors with a 214.5. The 2008 gelding is by Gallo Del Cielo and out of the Smart Chic Olena mare Shes One Smart Chic.

West Coast Beach Boy and Chapman – Adequan NAAC Rookie Pro Champions
The Mountain region was represented well withWest Coast Beach Boy (West Coast Whiz x Reminics Command) and Michelle Chapman(Eaton, Colo.). The pair competed in a run-off with Amanda Yarbrough and A Bingo Chic after both entries marked a 212.5. In the run-off, they scored a 214.5 to win the championship title in the Adequan NAAC Rookie Pro. Barn 66 LLC (Lafayette, Colo.) owns the 2008 gelding.

The reserve championship title went to Yarbrough (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) and A Bingo Chic (Itsa Bingo Greyhound x Chics Oh Rosa) after they marked a 212 in the run-off. Robert Santagata (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) owns the 2008 stallion.

Marks and Tagged My Chic – Adequan NAAC Limited Non Pro Champions
South Central region representatives Tagged My Chic (Whiz N Tag Chex x Cheeky Boom) and NRHA Youth member Kaylan Marks (Yorktown, Texas) had a spectacular run that not only earned them a 218 from the judges but also championship honors in the Adequan NAAC Limited Non Pro class. The 2007 mare who has earned more than $19,500 is also owned by Kaylan Marks.

The Western Canada region’s Jumpin Jac Trash (Trashadeous x Sail Away Rene, $16,200 NRHA LTE) and owner/rider Madison Steed (Cochrane, Alberta, Canada) took home the reserve champion honors with a score of 217.5.

Adequan® NAAC Team Championship Award from SmartPak
SmartPak will present $2,500 to the top point-earning Affiliate Region in the 2013 Adequan North American Affiliate Team Championship. Teams from each of the 11 regions earn points in all Adequan NAAC classes. With five classes complete, the leading regions are:

  • Northwest – 60.5
  • South Central – 51
  • Mountain – 47.5
  • Northeast – 40.5
