2 APHA Youth Awarded With Scholarships to Attend Youth Conference, Book Your Spot Now
Two AjPHA members have been selected to each receive a $750 travel scholarships to help them attend the annual AjPHA Youth Leadership Conference March 1–4 in Irving, Texas. One scholarship is awarded to a current AjPHA national director and one is presented to a first-time Youth Leadership Conference attendee.
Maryann Johnson of Drewryville, Virginia, is receiving the AjPHA Youth National Director $750 scholarship toward travel to the 2018 AjPHA Youth Leadership Conference. This active Youth member has been involved with APHA since 2013; she’s served as an AjPHA national director, Zone 7 representative and in various officer positions in the Virginia Junior Paint Horse Club, including president. Maryann is involved with her 4-H club and is a Virginia 4-H program ambassador.
Mason Nielsen of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, is receiving the $750 “First-Time Attendee” travel scholarship. Mason has been involved in his regional club in Minnesota, helping in the horse show office and assisting the show manager for several Minnesota North Star Paint Horse Club shows. As a Life Scout, Mason contributes to his local community by volunteering, and he also has a part-time job on a local fairy farm. Mason was nominated for an AjPHA national director position for 2018 and hopes to become more involved within AjPHA.
“As the director of youth activities, I am very excited to offer travel scholarships to our Youth so they can come and take part in the AjPHA Youth Leadership Conference, a great opportunity to enhance their leadership skills, meet other Paint Horse Youth members and learn more about the association,” APHA’s Christine Henry said.
It’s not too late to reserve your spot at the 2018 Youth Leadership Conference. The event takes place in conjunction with the 2018 APHA Convention, and features icebreaker games, educational seminars, insight into APHA and its governance and leadership opportunities.
