The 10th anniversary of the Tar Heel Triple Classic and Little Futurity is just one day away, and, according to show management, the event is just a few stalls away from a complete sell-out.
“We have about 785 stalls sold,” Gale Little says. “We may have five or six stalls left, so yes, we are at just about a sell out! Move in started the day before yesterday, and Larry said there were people and horses everywhere and steady traffic of more trailers arriving.”
“He said the atmosphere was great and everyone seemed happy. That’s our goal for this show, to make this event as enjoyable as possible for everyone.”
One of the ways show staff hopes to accomplish this feat is with a full lineup of social activities, parties, and fundraisers that kick off tonight with the Exhibitor’s Move-In Dinner.
“The North Carolina Quarter Horse Youth Association has lots of fun things planned: a Move-In Dinner on Wednesday night, a 10th Anniversary Tar Heel Triple Classic Party on Friday night with a pig picking, photo booth, corn hole game, and a live band! They will have a TTC Snack Shack in the afternoons, an ice cream social, and watch out for pink flamingos! There will be lots of food and fun!”
The Tar Heel Triple Classic begins tomorrow with the NCQHYA Show (June 12-15), which will be judged by Tim Finkenbinder, Jeff Allen, Michael Jung, Brett Clark, Louise Stewart Keen, Bob Mowery, and Benham Stewart.

The Little Futurity portion of the show will take place June 15-18 with judges Milt Alderman, Brett Clark, John Dean, and Betsy Tuckey officiating. Two main events to look out for include the $25,000 added 3 and 4-year-old Novice Horse Western Pleasure slot class on Sunday evening and the $20,000 added Non-Pro 3 and Over $7,500 Ltd. Horse Western Pleasure slot class on Tuesday evening.
“Our Little Futurity pre-entries are more than we had last year,” Little says. “We have really nice prizes including a Harris work saddle to be given away on Tuesday night following the slot class, to an exhibitor in a random drawing. But they must be present to win it!”
Following the conclusion of the Little Futurity, the NCQHA Jamboree will take place June 18-21 with Betsy Tuckey, Tracy Willis, Holly Hover, Sissy Anderson, John Lawrence, and Andrea Simons judging. On June 22nd, the event will conclude with the NCQHA “No Bling” Novice Level 1 and Rookie Show.
