It’s been a busy morning over in the Coliseum at the 2014 All American Quarter Horse Congress. On the schedule were all of the Youth Halter Mare classes. Although the class sizes weren’t considerably large, the competition was stiff.
First up, Mariah Sherer was named the Congress Champion in Youth Weanling Mares with The Art Of Sleep. The Reserve Champion was Hannah Lynch with Frosted Blessing. The third place winner was Julie McArdle-Cole with Coats N Tails.
In the Youth Yearling Mares class, Justin Ware was named the Congress Champion with My Ohhh My. The Reserve Champion was Kayla Gilbert with My Girl. Third place was Bradyn Burke with A Radiant Merlot. Fourth place was Erin Nicole Mask with Git It Gurl. Fifth place was Jake Wicker with R Yella Princess.
The Youth 2-Year-Old Mares and Youth Three-Year-Old Mares classes saw two sisters, Kaylee and Monica Hamm, dominate the top spots. Monica Hamm led Miss Kittee to a win in Youth Two-Year-Old Mares. The Reserve Champion was Erin Nicole Mark with Cheerz. Winning the Youth Three Year-Old Mares was little sister, Kaylee Hamm, leading Giancarla. The Reserve Champion was Madison Maciejewski with Formal I Will Be.
We caught up with the Hamm sisters who were busily switching jackets and entry numbers to prepare for their back-to-back classes.
“We’ve been very busy,” Monica Hamm says. “We got in last night at 11 o’clock, because we had to go to school this week. Then, we got up early at 5 am. Today, we have three horses with my sister in 3-Year-Old Mares and Aged Mares and me in 2-Year-Old Mares. Tomorrow we have Aged Geldings with RPL My Te Cheerful and Boys N Toys, and I will show Be A Gunslinger in 2-Year-Old Geldings.”
What’s the hardest part about showing so many horses in the same discipline at the same horse show? The fashion choices, of course!
“It makes it a lot easier to switch jackets rather than switching numbers, especially when you have to go back-to-back like that,” Monica says. “We try to make sure our hats match; then we pick two jackets and go from there!”
In the Youth Aged Mares class, Kaylee Hamm won another Congress Champion title with Best To Be Me. Coming in Reserve was Erin Nicole Mask with MC Exceptional Miss. Rounding out the top three was Brooklyn Hazel with Shez Sinful.
Stay tuned for the results of the Youth Performance Halter Mares followed by Grand and Reserve.
