News from WCHA

Dear Yellow Rose and WCHA/Big Money Futurity Participants,

The last couple days I’ve been exploring our options for the unfortunate cancellation of the Yellow Rose Futurity that was scheduled for this past weekend at the Pinto World Show due to devastating storm that blew through Tulsa.

First of all we are both “disappointed for” but also “appreciative of” those who entered our classes, traveled to Tulsa in high expectations of showing in our Yellow Rose Futurity with a $50,000 Purse for non pro competitors.  Our numbers were fantastic with nearly 25 yearling fillies, a dozen yearling geldings, a dozen two year old mares, 7 yearling stallions and even 5 two yr old stallions……. All classes had 6 or more entries !!!  And we are also saddened for the Pinto association for having their World Championship Show cut short with over 2300 stalls booked for the two week event;  Darryl Bilke/Kim Hall and their staff worked so hard for months to prepare for this event.  Our partnership and alliance with Pinto Horse Association is very important to WCHA and they are WONDERFUL to work with in our joint efforts to provide a prestigious venue for halter horse competition.

So…… what to do with this futurity for this year ???  Not one solution is going to be perfect for everyone so what is in “the best interest of the majority of participants”,  I along with our Executive Committee explored many options,  we’ve had offers from other associations to host for this year, however:

  • The Pinto Association is a good fit for WCHA because they too recognize and have additional classes for multiple breeds,  if we went with a single breed association the majority of participants would only have our Yellow Rose to compete within.
  • Secondly…….many of our participants recently took time off from their jobs, traveled significant distance to Tulsa and with additional expenses for hotels, RV spots, restaurants, stalling, fuel and away from home to ask them to load up and haul again in 2-3 weeks time is unreasonable hardship.

What we’ve elected to do for this year is to hold our Yellow Rose classes within the Big Money Futurity in Fort Worth this fall.  (Big Money Futurity will be held Sept 25, 26,27th)

This is by far the best option because:

  • Most of our Yellow Rose participants are already planning to attend the Halter Million so not another trip away from home
  • All of the Yellow Rose classes are the same format as the Big Money (non pro futurity with yearling, two year old and three years and over divisions)
  • One stall in Fort Worth gets you multiple futurity classes to compete within:   Big Money, WCHA Breeder’s, APHA World Show, etc.
  • Yellow Rose classes with run “within” the Big Money classes so not an additional day of showing, however I will work in additional judges so that the results of the Yellow Rose is not “duplication” of Big Money results…… (if you don’t do great in the Big Money you could still take home sizeable check in the Yellow Rose or vice versa)

Those who have already entered the Yellow Rose and cannot attend the big event in Fort Worth will receive full refund of entry and office fees !!!  However you must request a refund by July 1st, 2023.

Send email request to WCHA office:  touchdownkid95@gmail.com

For those of you who could not attend the Yellow Rose when it was scheduled for June 19th in Tulsa but would like to participate in Ft Worth we will still allow you to enter but in fairness to those who were supporting the event and entered early entry “new entry fees” will be opened at the amount of the last day to enter as of June 18th…  $325 per class but this amount must be paid by June 30th !!   (Postmarks and Email Deadlines will be strictly adhered to for all WCHA entries)

Fees will increase on July 1 and each month thereafter until last opportunity to enter on September 1st.    I have attached the revised entry form in this email.   The link to the new Yellow Rose Entry form will be on our FORMS PAGE along with ALL THE OTHER forms of all WCHA Sponsored events:  https://www.conformationhorse.com/forms/

Furthermore…….. horse eligibility requires that all horses must be sired by a stallion nominated into the Yellow Rose,  see the list of nominated stallions on the Yellow Rose tab of our website but stallions are still being accepted at only $250 fee.

See:  https://www.conformationhorse.com/yellow-rose-futurity/2023-nominated-stallions/

Yes, it’s very disappointing because of the storm this event was cancelled – I still view this as a win-win because no horses or participants were seriously injured but you now have another futurity in the SAME location this fall to compete in and opportunity to reap the financial rewards of over $50,000 paid out in 8 more non pro classes !!!   One more reason to attend the $1 Million Dollar Payout for WCHA in Fort Worth the last week of September !!!

Respectfully Yours,

Don Falcon – WCHA Executive Director
