It’s a competitive world out there. To give your upcoming American Quarter Horse foal a leg up on the competition, start with a sire nominated to the American Quarter Horse Association Incentive Fund.

For a foal to be enrolled in the AQHA Incentive Fund, the foal’s sire must first be nominated to the program.

Mare owners have the opportunity to peruse the list of Incentive Fund-nominated stallions in the free online AQHA Stallion Directory at www.aqha.com/stallions.

“The Incentive Fund has paid back a remarkable $73.2 million since its inception to nominators and owners of American Quarter Horses,” said AQHA Executive Vice President Don Treadway Jr. “What makes the program attractive is that an enrolled horse has the ability to put money back in the pockets of nominators and owners.”

Each point earned at an AQHA-approved show in the open or amateur division by an Incentive Fund-nominated horse will be worth a specific amount. The exact amount will depend on total money in the fund for that show year and the total number of points earned in that year by Incentive Fund-nominated horses.

The bulk of Incentive Fund income relies on stallion owners nominating their stallion every year and foal owners enrolling the resulting offspring from each crop.

In addition, to help bolster the program, foal owners also pay an annual license fee of $50 per division (open and amateur), 100 percent of which is paid back to those owners. In 2013, that netted nearly $300,000. In 2013, the Incentive Fund paid out nearly $2.2 million. Nearly 135,000 AQHA points were cashed in by stallion nominators, foal nominators and owners.

The stallion directory is organized by state, province and country, and can be accessed at www.aqha.com/stallions. AQHA Customer Service is also available at 806-376-4811 to verify if an American Quarter Horse stallion is currently nominated to the Incentive Fund.

The deadline to nominate stallions for the 2015 breeding season to the AQHA Incentive Fund has been extended without penalty to January 31, 2015.
