PHJ release by: Irene Stamatelakys
If you live outside of the United States or Canada, and you’re interested in becoming a carded APHA International Judge, then listen up. The APHA Judges Committee recently approved two new pathways to accreditation for international judge applicants, in addition to the European Educational Summit that traditionally takes place in Germany every other year.
APHA continually strives to develop high-quality judges who are able to precisely evaluate and rank entries in a variety of classes, in keeping with rules set forth by the association. Our international judges are accredited to judge APHA-approved classes anywhere in the world, outside of the United States and Canada. To help meet the growing global demand for well-trained judges, we’ve added two more opportunities for education and evaluation.
2018 APHA horseIQ Oceania Education Summit
Interested candidates living in Australia, New Caledonia and New Zealand won’t want to miss the inaugural 2018 APHA horseIQ Oceania Education Summit November 17–19 in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.
The event includes two days of in-depth instruction on what today’s judges are looking for in halter, showmanship, Western pleasure, hunter under saddle, Western horsemanship, hunt-seat equitation, trail, Western riding, reining and ranch horse classes.
Taught by APHA Judge Sandy Jirkovsky, one of the equine community’s top professionals, this seminar is a great opportunity for all APHA international judge applicants and carded judges wishing to renew their credentials—attending a seminar like this one is required for those individuals. On the third day, APHA judge applicants may take the rule book test, video tests and interview—all required steps in the approval process.
This event is perfect for exhibitors who want to understand the judging process and improve their placings, as well as trainers and judges of other breeds in search of continuing education opportunities. Register on or before October 26 to get the discounted rate for both the seminar and testing. Visit the event website for more information and to download the registration and applicant forms.
2019 CBC International Equine Judges Academy
Interested candidates from Central and South America are invited to attend the 2019 Color Breed Council International Equine Judges Academy, taking place January 25–27 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Seminars will cover a wide array of classes, including performance and halter classes for stock-type horses, and are open to prospective and current judges, as well as exhibitors from all disciplines in the equine industry. In addition to the required seminars, APHA international judge applicants may also take the rule book test, video tests and interview on January 28–29.
Tulsa’s Hyatt Regency Hotel will once again host this event, which offers a unique opportunity to meet and network with equine professionals from around the world. More information about the International Equine Judging Academy and the registration form are available online.
Learn more about becoming an approved APHA International Judge, and download the application form, on our website. The deadline to submit judge applications is 21 days prior to testing.
