Showing Breeders’ Trust-enrolled Paint Horses really paid off recently for two AjPHA members. Allie Aldrich and Julie Hill each received a $1,000 scholarship from APHA and Corporate Partner Farnam Horse Products. Additionally, the APHA regional club of their choice each receives $500, courtesy of Farnam.
All AjPHA members automatically receive an “entry” into the Farnam Breeders’ Trust Youth Scholarship Program every time they show a Breeders’ Trust-nominated Paint Horse in APHA Youth or Novice Youth classes during the yearlong eligibility period. The event collected entries between April 1, 2014, and March 31, 2015. Entries accumulate per judge, per class.
In its third year, APHA tallied 66,565 total entries for the scholarships. Per program rules, entries were divided into two groups: one for entries from Youth classes, and the other for entries from Novice Youth classes. One recipient from each group was chosen at random by computer to win a $1,000 Farnam scholarship; each winner then selected an APHA regional club to receive $500 from Farnam to help fund an outreach program to other local youth equine organizations.
Julie Hill of Round Rock, Texas, was the Farnam Breeders’ Trust Novice Youth Scholarship winner. Julie is a 16-year-old high school junior, and she attended her first AjPHA Youth World Championship Show in 2014. Her entries toward the Farnam Breeders’ Trust Youth Scholarship program were earned by riding The Ultimate Attitude, a 2008 Breeders’ Trust-enrolled chestnut overo gelding by The Ultimate Fancy and out of Zippos Attitude. Julie selected the Texas Paint Horse Club to receive the $500 grant from Farnam.
“I’m honored to receive this scholarship,” Julie said. “I plan to use this amazing scholarship to pursue a degree in human or animal science. I would like to thank Farnam Horse Products, APHA, Jay Jordan, Teresa Pelton and my magnificent horse ‘Cooper’ for making this possible.”
Allie Aldrich, an 18-year-old college student from Burlington, Wisconsin, was the Farnam Breeders’ Trust Youth Scholarship recipient. She earned her entries for the scholarship aboard Zips Baby Doll, a 2010 Breeders’ Trust-nominated sorrel overo mare by Zipman out of CK Calvins Miss Zip (QH). She selected the Wisconsin Paint Horse Club to receive the additional $500 from Farnam.
Allie began showing horses at an early age and says it has taught her dedication, discipline and humility.
“I am so honored to have been chosen for this scholarship. Out of all the awards I have received, this one means the most because it came from the organization I have given my all to,” she said. “My first year of showing APHA was my only year as a Youth. Being in the company of so many talented riders pushed me to be the best I could be.”
Allie plans to use the scholarship toward a veterinary technician degree.
Scholarships for the 2015–2016 show season are gathered from all eligible entries generated between April 1, 2015, and March 31, 2016. AjPHA members showing Breeders’ Trust-nominated horses earn one entry per class, per judge, in Youth or Novice Youth classes at every APHA-approved show where they exhibit.
