Triangle Horse Sale at AQHA World Concludes With Historical Averages

The 42nd annual Triangle Fall Horse Sale, held October 29-30 in Oklahoma City, wrapped up with the highest averaging sale season since its establishment in 1979. The Fall Sale averaged $12,900 on 406 catalogued horses, less withdrawals and achieved an 81 percent sales completion. Of the 381 sold horses, 155 head went for more than $10,000, averaging $20,100 as a group and marking an impressive 51 percent total entering the Triangle Top $10,000 Club.

This cultivated a new Top $10,000 Club annual achievement, with 375 horses bringing more than $10,000 in the 2021 sale year.

This was the second year the Triangle Fall Sale was showcased during opening weekend of the Farnam AQHA World and Adequan® Select World Championship Show at the OKC Fairgrounds. The sale event drew a large crowd, beginning with a sale preview October 28, followed by reining-bred, ranch, barrel, trail and family horses selling on October 29 and cutting and roping-bred horses selling on October 30. The three-day crowd consisted of buyers from 33 states, with top buyer states being Texas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Iowa and California.

The high-selling entry was Hip No. 282, Driving Miss Em (Woody Be Tuff-Swing Thru The Drive by Hydrive Cat), selling for $90,000. The 2015 sorrel mare was consigned by Phil and Mary Ann Rapp of Weatherford, Texas, a near-$100,000 NCHA money earner, and sold with a breeding to Dont Stopp Believin (Dual Rey-Dont Look Twice by High Brow Cat). The mare was purchased by Jeanine Benenati of Springtown, Texas.

While cutting-bred horses led the Top Ten sales, the top selling group as an average were reining-bred horses at $21,050, followed by cutting and cow horses, which averaged $19,000. These two groups were followed closely by seasoned geldings at $17,800 and ranch and roping horses, averaging $14,300.

The second high-seller overall was Hip 201, New Cut In Town (One Time Pepto-Shorty Lena Girl by Shorty Lena), a 2008 blue roan stallion consigned by Creek Plantation of Augusta, Georgia, and selling to Dan Barner of Hershey, Nebraska, for $77,000. This was followed by Hip No. 36 at a purchase price of $56,000 for a red roan yearling colt, AR Cashnfame (Dash Ta Fame-Shegetscash by Peptoboonsmal). The colt was consigned by Atwood Quarter Horses Inc. of Weatherford, Texas, and purchased by Ty Smith Performance Horses of Edmond, Oklahoma.

Fourth and fifth high sellers were Hip No. 388, Bet N Shesa Cat (Bet Hesa Cat-Glow A Pepto by Peptoboonsmal), bringing $50,000 and Hip No. 254, Reckelle (Metallic Cat-Lil Bit Reckless by CD Royal), also bringing $50,000. Bet N Shesa Cat was consigned by Nathen Anderson Cutting Horses of Elmore City, Oklahoma, and purchased by Randy White of Solomon, Kansas. Reckelle, bred to Dual Reyish (Hottish-A Little Reylena by Dual Rey), was consigned by the Estate of Terry Albracht of Springtown, Texas, and purchased by Shayne Barrington of Weatherford, Texas.
