UPDATE: Just moments ago, Rock County Kid claimed his second slot class win of the 2014 Little Futurity, this time with owner Sharnai Thompson in the saddle. The pair was the winning duo that took home first place honors in the $20,000 added Non-Pro 3 and Over $7,500 Ltd. Horse Western Pleasure slot class. The night before, trainer Rusty Green rode the horse to a win in the $25,000 added 3 and 4-Year-Old $1,000 Novice Horse Western Pleasure slot class. Congratulations!

Day 1 of the 2014 Little Futurity is in the books and, according to show management, entries have shown a dramatic increase over previous years resulting in record numbers for 2014! With entry totals like 16 in Novice Amateur Western Pleasure, 16 in 3-Year-Old $2,500 Rider Open Western Pleasure, 17 in 50 and Over Non Pro Western Pleasure, and 20 in Novice Horse Novice Rider Western Pleasure, the 2014 event is shaping up to be the largest in the Futurity’s ten year history.
Big winners on Day 1 included Brooke Wolff with I Only Accept Chex in a 20 entry Novice Horse Novice Rider Western Pleasure class. The pair took home $739.20 for their efforts. Paula Czapko and Suddens Leadin Lady scored a check for $666.40 for a first place finish in the 50 and Over Non-Pro Western Pleasure class with 17 entries. Jamie West rode Bein Lazy Rox to a $577 payday in the 3-Year-Old $2,500 Rider Open Western Pleasure class with 16 entries. Faith Small and Flash Of Sudden received a check for $618 in the Novice Amateur Western Pleasure class with 16 entries.
The highlight of Day 1 was the 3 and 4-Year-Old $1,000 Novice Horse Western Pleasure slot class with 12 entries. With $25,000 in added money up for grabs, top western pleasure trainers like Rusty Green, Andy Cochran, Randy Wilson, Kenny Lakins, Jeff Cochran, Brian Baker, and more gathered their best mounts for a chance to take home a Little Futurity belt buckle and big win check.
Winning the class was Rusty Green aboard Rock County Kid for Sharnai Thompson. Coming in Reserve was Andy Cochran aboard Suddenly Extreme for Ruth Marie Rowe. Tying for third/fourth place was Randy Wilson aboard Certainly On Sundi and Cleve Wells with A Certain Amble. Tying for fifth/sixth/seventh place was Amanda Jackson with A Sudden Echo for Diane and Randy Cantrell, Kenny Lakins with A Wish Right Now, and Katy Jo Zuidema with She Sure Is Hot.
