It was a bit bright and early this morning for Western Pleasure Futurity horses, but all of the 3-year-olds took the early call time in stride delivering a very impressive class for the 3-Year-Old Non Pro Western Pleasure limited division. Claiming the Congress Champion title was Sharnai Thompson with Rock County Kid.
Earlier in the week, trainer Rusty Green piloted “Rocky” to a win in Green Western Pleasure. Today, it was his owner’s turn to take a trip around the pen. Just a few days ago, Sharnai described how much fun she has showing her beautiful, 3-year-old gelding.
“He’s a blast to show,” she said. “I’ve ridden some really nice horses, and he’s got one of the best feels ever. He’s really fun to show. Like Maggie [Grandquist] said, he’s got a lot of personality, so he keeps you on your toes.”
Today, Sharnai only had a few moments to take an in-the-ring win shot before dashing out of the pen to do a quick change for an upcoming Hunter Under Saddle class. Meanwhile, the Reserve Champion in the class, Lauren Love, received a hearty congratulations from her trainer, Angie Cannizzaro, following her second place finish on Wearin Only Moonlite.
Coming in third in the class was Ashley Frye with The Rock. Fourth place was Russ Kimbrell with The Cape Crusader. Fifth place was Eric Mendrysa with First N Line. Sixth place was Kyle Brenner with Born Frisky. Seventh place was Courtney Chown with Bein Lazy Rox. Eighth place was Bill Cosentino/Hot Lopin Cowboy. Ninth place was Logan Wheeler with Best Believe It. Tenth place was Sarah Carr with Machine Image.
Stay tuned for the Non Pro Open division of this class coming later this week.
