First up this morning in Halter classes at the AQHYA World Championship Show was the Yearling Geldings class with four qualifiers. Miss Coralee Castle led her bay roan gelding, Initially Cool, to a near-unanimous win with four firsts and one second under judges Tim Finkenbinder, Steve Cruse, John Tuckey, Chele McGauly, and Larry Little, respectively. Initially Cool is by Initials Only and out of Coolestshowgirlntown.
Coming in Reserve in the class was Drew Smith with Fearles Touch, a sorrel gelding by Fearles and out of Touchness. Third place was Erin Mask with Ecredible Kid. Fourth was Millie Anderson with Just Acool Kid.
The next three Halter classes were a clean sweep for sisters, Monica and Kaylee Hamm. The two ladies showed a total of six horses in three classes today and were named World or Reserve World Champion in every class they competed in.
First, Monica Hamm led Coolsified Secret to win 2-Year-Old Geldings. This sorrel gelding is by Kid Coolsified and out of Milans Pretty Secret. Kaylee Hamm came in Reserve with SS Rampage. The third place winner was Connolly Moore with Righteous Rascal. Fourth was Abbey Beckmann with Blowen Smoke. Fifth was Houston Cloud with Ima Cool Treasure.
Monica returned in the 3-Year-Old Mares class and was named the World Champion for the second year in a row with Miss Kittee. This sorrel mare is by Western Gunslinger and out of Lady Is Irresistible. Kaylee was named the Reserve World Champion with Guns And Lace. Zaidee Paxton led Shez Intense to a third place finish. Fourth place was Jordan Schroetter with Lipstik. Fifth was Calley Huston and FG Just Imagine.
There was a bit of a switch up in Aged Mares. This time, little sister Kaylee won the World Championship title with Giancarla. This chestnut mare is by Gianni and out of Miss Cool Diva. Monica came in Reserve with Cool Smokin Lady. Third place was Drew Smith with Hunkee Doree. Shyanne Smith led Infinity to a fourth place finish. Alexis Lege with Bita Nugget was the 13 and under winner and placed 5th overall in the class.
We had the chance to speak to Monica yesterday following her big win in Aged Geldings with RPL My Te Cheerful. Today, it was little sister’s turn. Kaylee was excited to show all of her horses today, but her 4-year-old mare Giancarla is certainly special.
“I showed her last year,” she says. “Then, I got to show back-to-back three times today, so it was hectic! I just put on another jacket, calmed myself, and thought this is just another horse in another class.”
When it came down to the final two spots in Aged Mares, only Monica and Kaylee were left on the wall. When the results were announced, Monica gave her little sister a huge congratulatory hug.
“It was amazing!” she says. “We were in four of the same classes this year. All of our horses are so similar, so I didn’t know who would win. I was hoping I would win one, and finally I got it! I’m so happy for her too.”
Kaylee will turn 15 next Tuesday, so today’s World Championship and two Reserve World Championship titles will serve as an excellent early birthday present!
Congratulations and Happy Birthday!
