It was a hard fought battle for the top two spots in the Walk-Trot Trail this afternoon at the 2014 AjPHA Youth World Show but, when all was said and done, it was Alexa Rogers and Sonny Dee Zippin who claimed the top spot. Coming in a close second was Harper Smith with Double Shot of Scotch. Third place was Alexia Tordoff with Bossy Commander.
Rogers, a 10-year-old equestrienne, has already won a World Championship title in Hunter Under Saddle with her other horse, Gotta Be Sensational, aka “Joey,” and a Reserve World Championship in Walk-Trot Showmanship with Sonny Dee Zippin, aka “Jake.”
Rogers would like to thank her good friend, Daranne Folino, for letting her have Jake and her favorite horse trainer, Ryan Painter, who gave her some helpful advice before she went in the pen.
“He said to stay focused and make sure I don’t get too nervous to where I mess up,” she says.
Although it might be hard for other competitors her age to remember such a long trail course, that’s the easiest part for Rogers. Up next, she will put her excellent memory to the test in Walk-Trot Horsemanship. At the end of the week, she will ride in Walk-Trot Western Pleasure.
Rogers also wanted to add that she will be turning eleven on July 24th, so this is her last year in the walk-trot division.
“After the World Show, hopefully I will go into loping, hopefully! It’s so much fun!”
When she isn’t at a horse show, you can find Rogers driving her golf cart, swimming, and playing with her best friends, Cara and Piper. Both of the younger ladies will be competing today in Leadline, and Rogers plans to be on the front row to cheer them on.
