Third times certainly a charm for Kenny Lakins and One Lazy Investment as they claimed their third Congress Championship in a row in Senior Western Pleasure this evening.

We already had the opportunity to speak to Kenny following his win in Open Western Yearling Longe Line with Batt Attitude, so this evening we caught up with Lazy’s owner, Virginia Owen. Earlier today, Virginia showed Lazy for the first time in the Non Pro Maturity Limited finals at the Congress and placed third.

“That was my first time, so I was pretty ecstatic!” she says. “I get nervous when I show, but not with them because they’re a beautiful team. They’re spectacular together. They do their thing, and it’s beautiful to watch.”

Nine-year-old Lazy has proven his mettle time and time again in the Western Pleasure pen, so next year Virginia is looking forward to adding some new events. “He’s going to become my all-around horse,” she says. “We will do Western Riding, Trail, Horsemanship, and Equitation. I introduced him to poles last winter.”

In addition to his signature event, Virginia thinks Lazy will be exceptional in Trail. “He is a sissy about touching poles, because he doesn’t like getting his feet bumped, and that’s good for Trail! Also, he has such a big stride, and he holds the ground long, so it will be pretty going over the poles. He’s really good at Western Riding too.”

We can’t wait to see what Virginia and Lazy have in store next year… Congratulations to the Lakins Team on this exciting win!
