The world’s largest small equine competition, American Miniature Horse National Show, was held September 4-14 at the Tulsa Expo Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The eleven day equine extravaganza offered action packed competitions for cash, prizes and loads of fun for horse enthusiasts of all ages.
Miniature horses competed for cash and prizes in classes such as driving, jumping, costume, obstacle, halter and more. There were special offerings for amateur and youth in addition to breeders’ classes and open competition. Competitors won premiums via class paybacks, incentives, jackpots and futurities. With 1,597 Miniatures accounting for more than 6,200 entries in 380-plus classes, the 2014 AMHR National Show is the largest show of its kind in the world.
In addition to hundreds of classes, the 2014 national show featured a vendor-filled mall for the shopping pleasure of exhibitors and spectators. Participants also enjoyed special events held in conjunction with the show including a pizza party and chariot races. Over 1,000 rubber mini horses were tossed into the arena during the First annual Flying Mini Horse Contest. This contest benefits the AMHR Youth Team.
The 2014 AMHR National Show offered a bevy of special awards and recognition for the exhibitors who participated as well. Youth competed for more than three dozen special awards ranging from high point winners to junior judging & quiz bowl champions to sportsmanship honors. Top amateur exhibitors in halter and performance also received special recognition.
Pat Sanders, President of ASPC, Inc., stated, “We are thrilled with the growth and enthusiasm for this event in Tulsa. 2014 was another fantastic National Championship.”
