Ted Turner was at the lead of a beautiful buckskin mare named Lookin For Romance to take the World Championship title in Two-Year-Old Mares for new owner, Suzonne Franks. “Honey Bun” is by Acoolest and out of Bob Bob Barann. An interesting fact is that the third place horse in the class, Rockin And A Reelin, with Tim Finkenbinder is also out of Bob Bob Barann.

“We just purchased her a couple of days ago,” Franks says. “When we got to the show, Jarrell Jackson, our trainer, said she was offered for sale. We fell in love with her immediately and made the purchase.”

“[I loved] her conformation and her breeding. I’ve always heard that Rita Crundwell knew how to breed horses, bred her own, and kind of upped the ante for the people in the horse industry, as far as breeding goes. I was so excited to realize that this was one of hers.”

Last week, former owner, Kathy Sheahan, led Honey Bun to a third place finish and an Intermediate win in Amateur 2-Year-Old Mares. Now, Franks will take over showing in the amateur division and trainer Jarrell Jackson will lead the mare in the open division.

Following her win today, Honey Bun will head to her new home at Franks’s ranch in Cisco, Texas. Franks is thrilled about her first World Championship title and is looking forward to the competition tomorrow, because she still has three horses left to show.

“We have a yearling filly, a two-year-old gelding, and a two-year-old stud,” she says. “Then, Jarrell has a 3-year-old stallion and 3-year-old mare. We brought a barnful!”

“This is our first World Championship. I’ve only just recently started getting into the halter and back in the Quarter Horse business probably 18 months ago. When we got the ranch, and I was able to have horses again, I chose halter.”
