Taylor Searles and Hereicomagain epitomized the definition of a true all-around Quarter Horse this morning at the AQHA Youth World Show by winning BOTH the 14-18 Western Pleasure and 14-18 Western Riding in back-to-back fashion.
We had the opportunity to speak with Taylor earlier in the week, when she and her five-year-old mare, “Chloe,” won L2 Trail. Despite her excellent performance this morning, Taylor never imagined something like back-to-back World Championships might be a possibility.
“I was just trying to go and have good rides. She gave it her all. I never imagined back-to-back World Championships!”
Once Taylor and Chloe exited the Western Pleasure pen, they barely had time for a few photos with friends and family before running back to the stalls for a quick change, since she was tenth to go in Western Riding. “We were lucky enough to be able to take her back and let her pee and then get her back up here and get her going forward again for Western Riding.”
Chloe initially began her horse show career in Western Pleasure Futurity events with Rusty Green Show Horses before heading over to Circle S Ranch to continue her all-around career for owner, Kathy Tobin. Her superior quality of movement has certainly translated to a free-flowing and smooth action in Western Riding.
“My mom has been showing her as a junior horse, but I really started doing Western Riding with her in January. Then, I had to go back to school, so May was really when we started working on it with her more. She changes lead great, and she’s so pretty in between the lead changes. She’s soft, flowy, and so much fun to ride.”
Also here at the show, Taylor and Chloe made it back to the Horsemanship Finals. Taylor also showed her other horse, Al Be Sweet On You, to a 7th place finish in Western Riding this morning. She has the Hunter Under Saddle and Equitation finals tomorrow.
As Taylor closes out her final Youth World Show and prepares to head back to school at Auburn University, she reflects on the opportunity to show such an incredible mare. “She’s a special horse!”
