Many equestrians are familiar with StallWatch, the unique portable video surveillance system that helps us keep an eye on our beloved equine companions 24/7. Horses from all disciplines, Triple Crown contenders, Grand Prix jumpers, Champion Reining horses, and World class Western Pleasure horses, are being monitored around the clock by StallWatch’s easy-to-install wireless system.
What you might not know is that StallWatch isn’t just for horses. Recently, Zoo Atlanta has incorporated the use of StallWatch cameras to get a glimpse into the overnight activities of animals like zebras, bongos, and kudu!
“The StallWatch camera monitoring system generously donated to Zoo Atlanta is allowing our animal keepers and veterinary staff to enhance the excellent care they provide to our animal collections in a variety of ways by giving them the flexibility to install cameras in different locations and then view them from any computer or phone. Most recently, Zoo staff has installed the cameras in the Hoofstock Barn to get a better glimpse into the overnight behaviors of this collection which includes zebra, bongo and kudu housed in the Zoo’s African Plains complex. Since the keepers leave at the end of the day, the opportunity to view the StallWatch camera footage allows animal care professionals to see if the animals interact with enrichment items left for them, when and how much they sleep, the effects of storms and rain on their overnight behavior, and more. The cameras provide a wealth of information, all of which can then be incorporated into the care, enrichment and training of these animals.”
