This week at the 2024 NSBA World Championship Show, we caught up to the very busy and talented Blake Weis after he won Senior Western Riding with Snippity Snap for Kent Ray Taylor, earning $1929.70. “Boo” is by VS Code Red and out of Snap Krackle Pop (by RL Best of Sudden).
After their ride, Blake explains that Boo just truly keeps getting better, and last year was just her first year out of the green. For Thursday’s Western Riding pattern, he says she was just really good. “She has gotten so much more mature and confident,” he says. “Today she felt really confident and comfortable, and she just really knew her job today,” he says of the mare who has always excelled in athleticism.
As far as practicing, we asked what does Blake to get her ready – does he pick and choose, or is lead changing a constant?
“I pick and choose to get ready,” he says. “I try to separate it at home; I’ll do Trail or change leads. When leading up to the to the big horse shows, I try to do both in the day, just to get them in shape, in case they have to do two classes in one day or whatnot, but I try to keep everything separated for her.”
Congratulations to Blake, Kent Ray Taylor, and “Boo!” See complete results for the class below:
