Our sincerest condolences go out to the family and friends of Keith Whistle following his recent passing. Specializing in bringing along Western Pleasure prospects and competing with them at the highest level to countless awards and accolades, Keith was always seen around the show grounds with his ever-present smile and friendly demeanor.
“He’s one of the guys who has probably won more Western Pleasure World Championships and Congress Championships than anybody else,” says one of his contemporaries.
Horses like Racy Rumors, Vital Signs Are Good, and Invest In Vital Signs are just a few of the horses that have been connected to his name over the years. Keith showed Vital Signs Are Good to win a Congress Championship in 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure and a World Championship in 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure for Kristen Galyean. He later won the $100,000 Equine Sports Medicine Challenge at the Reichert Celebration with the first stallion by Vital Signs Are Good, named Invest In Vital Signs.
“What I always liked about Keith is that he was a great showman, and he basically let the horse be what it is,” Kristen says. “He would show it to the best of its ability, and he always did a great job of presenting the horse well.”
“When he showed Vital Signs Are Good, it was a great combination, because he let her be exactly what she was. I remember him doing a victory lap at the World Show, and he took her bosal off and loped her around bridleless.”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Keith’s family and friends following his recent passing.
