The last halter class of the 2014 AQHYA World Show concluded with Shyanne Smith leading PF Supreme Surprise to a unanimous win in a tough 19 entry class of Aged Mares. Shyanne and “Diva” have been a team since this past December when her family purchased the mare from Chester and Ann Prince of Prince Farms.
“Dewey [Smith] raised her,” Shyanne says. “We decided Grandma would show her at the Select World, and I would show her here. After that, we’ll hopefully get some babies out of her.”
“Grandma and I have been sharing throughout the year, so it will be exciting to see how she gets along at the Select World. She’s going to get nervous and freak out! I wasn’t nervous until I started going down the chute. I was thinking, ‘this is it; it’s go-time.’ But, I got in there and took deep breaths, because she was starting to act up, and then everything went smoothly.”
Diva is a 4-year-old mare by MH Supremo and out of Rivercity Girl. According to Shyanne, the sorrel mare certainly lives up to her nickname.
“Today was different than most days showing her,” she says. “On most days, she’s real dull. Today, she went out there and was like, ‘It’s World Show time and I’m going to show!’ She wasn’t playing around. She was great for me.”
“During the tracking, I was a little afraid she was going to spook and act up, because she felt so good. But, she stayed right with me, and we were a team the whole way through. I was really happy with her. She was being a diva by the end of it. She was flicking her ears back and messing with her lips. She was done.”
Shyanne and Diva found themselves in the final two alongside fellow teammate, Riley Rivers, who led Cool Smokin Lady to a Reserve World Championship title. The mare by Kid Coolsified and out of Blue Smokey Illusion was also fit by Shyanne’s father Jason Smith.
“Dad’s had a really successful Youth World,” she says. “It’s paid off. He works really, really hard with all of us, and it showed. I was really happy for him.”Aged Mares was the only class Shyanne plans to compete in here at the Youth World Show. However, she hopes to return next year to try her hand at Ranch Pleasure.
“It’s pretty fun,” she says. “We’re going to get qualified, and I’m coming back to do that! It’s so versatile. You can go out there and relax. Everybody has a good time, and everybody’s laughing and talking. It’s not so serious like halter or horsemanship.”
