Youth, Amateur and Select Amateurs as well as exhibitors of horses of color showed their skills on the patterns in Showmanship classes on Monday in the Ford Truck Arena, followed by Open and Amateur Performance Halter classes.
Never Say Never
Ty Paris Dougherty said that she would never return to Showmanship after her Youth days, but she changed her mind when Best To Be Zippin became her show partner. The team won the NSBA world championship in Novice Amateur Showmanship.
“My horse loves to do Showmanship, so my mom (Beckey Schooler) and husband (Kyle Dougherty) talked me into it,” Ty said. “I had always said I had retired from showing in it.”
Best To Be Zippin is known as ‘Dumplin.’ “I’ve had her about a year and a half. She does the All Around and so she is showing in a lot of classes here. We’ve thrown a lot at her, but she takes it all in stride.

We Get Each Other
Colin Froman and My Dream Remembered are no strangers to winning at the NSBA World Championship Show. “We won the 13 & Under Showmanship in 2021 and I was reserve here last year,” Colin said. This year, the show team won the Color Youth Showmanship and were third in the 14-18 Youth Showmanship.
“We’ve been together now for three years. With the Showmanship, we just get each other. We seem like we’re in tune with each other on the maneuvers.”
Colin made the most of a short trip to Tulsa. “I have to leave to start high school,” he said. “I’m a junior this year. But we always make this trip, and my mom Vanessa shows too.”
Out With A Bang
Alana Stanton showed a horse that she has shown for the past three and a half years with her partner, InterestedIn Outlaws. “I was very excited about the pattern, it was one of our best ones ever,” she said. The duo were named NSBA world champions in Youth 14-18 Showmanship
“It’s possibly our last show together, though, because I am going to Oklahoma State University. I’m on the equestrian team there in Horsemanship, and I’m studying agribusiness.”
The duo has been doing the All Around events together. InterestedIn Outlaws is by The Naturalist.
New Team, New Goals
Cindy Schrader has not had her show partner, VS Retirement Fund, very long but she has hit the ground running with him. “Robbie is just five years old, and I got him just after the Congress,” Cindy said.
“He was our barn (Wade and Carly Parks) and was for sale, and I wanted to buy him earlier but couldn’t justify buying another horse. Later on, circumstances gave me the opportunity to buy him, and I just love him.
“He had never done Showmanship before, but he loves it. We won the Level 1 earlier and now here. I call him Robby-Bobby.”
Robby is by VS Code Red.
From Youth To Select For Rico
Essentially Good has been with the Himes family for five years, but a show partner with Penni Himes for just over a year. The duo won the NSBA world championship in Amateur Select Showmanship
“Rico was my daughter Gracie’s show horse, and after she went to college, Clint Ainsworth talked me into showing him,” Penni said.
“We won four classes here last year as a Novice, but this year is my first year to play in the big pond. He was so good through every maneuver.”
Rico is by Lazy Loper.
Firstoneinlastoneout Holds True To His Name
Patty Bogosh and Firstoneinlastoneout truly were the last ones out of the awards pen for Amateur Showmanship, winning the NSBA world championship in the class.
“I call him ‘Perfect Patrick,” Patty said. “We’ve been together for five years now. He’s by Its A Southern Thing and he’s just a great horse. He wants to be with you and please you. He tries so hard. He was with me for the entire class.”
Super Puncher And Paige Wacker Win Color Amateur Showmanship
“I’ve had my horse for two years, since he was three years old. He’s still just a baby at five but he just loves Showmanship,” Paige said of Super Puncher.
“In today’s pattern, I really liked out back to set up the most.
I used to do the All Around classes with my old horse, Whitetrashmillionaire, but for now, we stay on the ground with Showmanship and Halter but next year we hope to start doing riding classes.”
Super Puncher is by Fleet Machine and out of Impulsive Chic.
First World Show, First World Title For Allie Aronsen
Allie Aronsen had never been to the NSBA World Championship Show until 2023, but she set her sights on this year’s show and brought her game and her horse, No Sneakinuponwilly, to win a world championship title in her first year competing in Tulsa in Novice Youth Showmanship.
“I’ve worked my way up from 4-H, Open shows and APHA shows, and when my barn with Arturo Maestas and Jesse Jones went to more AQHA horses last year, I got Willis with them a year ago.
“It’s kind of one class and done for me, because I leave tomorrow to go back to start my junior year in high school. I usually show in the All Around classes.”
Least Favorite Class, But Still World Champion
Eleanor Ott confessed that Showmanship is her least favorite class to compete in, but she still earned a world championship title competing in it in Tulsa.
Eleanor showed Hez Rainey Made to win the Youth 13 & Under Showmanship. “Becky Schooler pretty much makes me do it,” she laughed. “It’s my horse’s favorite class, so I do it for him. This is our first world championship too. We’ve been reserve and third here.
“We do the All Around, showing in Equitation, Horsemanship and Showmanship.”

31 Entries Fill The Ford Truck Arena In Non-Pro Performance Halter Geldings
With little room to spare, 31 Non-Pros brought their Performance Halter Geldings to the Ford Truck Arena to compete for the world championship in Tulsa.
When the judges’ cards were turned in, it was Jordan Macan with Al Of A Sudden taking the world championship title. “I’ve had Tulsa for two years now, and we show in Trail, Horsemanship and Halter,” she said.
“I just love his personality. He’s such a good horse – he’s a huge blessing. He just has such a presence in the pen that makes him stand out. This is our second year in a row to win this class.”
Al Of A Sudden is by RL Best Of Sudden.
Three-Peat For Roxanne Doogan, Leslie Lange and Snap Chat Diva
It was déjà vu all over again for Roxanne Doogan, Leslie Lange and Snap Chat Diva. The eight year old Quarter Horse mare by VS Flatline and out of Radically Fired Up was the unanimous choice in both classes.
“I’ve been so lucky with her to win this class here in both the Open and Non-Pro three times now,” Roxanne said. “She’s won the AQHA Amateur Select World twice and was high point Open and Amateur for the past two years but she was also a reserve world champion in Trail and top ten in Western Riding. She shows in Horsemanship, Showmanship and Hunt Seat Equitation.”
“She’s so big and pretty, and has a great top line. She’s balanced and so strong through her loin,” added Leslie Vaugner Lange. “What surprises people is how big she is. She wasn’t bred to be a 16.3 horse, but she is.”
I Cant Sleep Wins Open Performance Halter Geldings
Dan Trein showed I Cant Sleep to the Open Performance Halter Geldings world championship for owner Denise Igoe.
“He probably has over 100 Western Pleasure points,” Dan said. “He’s beautiful and he can lope.”
I Cant Sleep is by One N Only and out of Sleepin Up The Line.
Mission Accomplished For I Am The Party and Jonathan Meilleur
I Am The Party and Jonathan Meilleur had never won the Open Performance Halter Stallions world championship at the NSBA World Show, but they have now.
Jonathan showed Benji to the title. “I love his form to function,” Jonathan said. “He has a great top line and I feel like he gets better as he ages. He just has great performance conformation, and it shows through his success in Western Pleasure and Trail, and he’s continued to be sound and show because of his conformation.
“He just spent six months at Highpoint Performance Horses at the breeding farm, and so I really haven’t got to show him since Florida. But he comes right back. I’ve had people tell me we don’t need to keep showing him, but he loves to show. He’s so great minded.”
I Am The Party is by Invitation Only and out of Sheza Radical Chip.
