Scott Reinartz and Investin A Goodbar have just been named the World Champions in Select Trail at the 2020 AQHA World Show. Surprisingly, this is their first Select World Show appearance and win! Last year, “Hank” was recovering from an injury, so the Select World was out, and Scott opted to compete at the Amateur World Show. He does have a prior World Championship in Amateur Trail and numerous Congress Championships in multiple events.
This pair has been a team since Hank was just four years old, and he’s now eleven. As a result, they’ve had some time to develop a strong partnership, with help from trainers, Bruce Vickery and Anthony Montes. “They’ve helped me a lot in getting in stride with the horse,” Scott says. “I ride with a lot of leg, and my horse doesn’t always love that, so Bruce has been teaching me to feel comfortable enough to trust him a little more to find his own stride and let him go with it. They’ve also helped me learn about the frame you want to use to go over an obstacle. It’s not just about going over it and being clean. There is a shaping of the body, selecting strides, choosing what foot goes where, and how your body sits. It’s very technical.”
Scott’s plan of attack for this pattern was to make sure that his walk sections had enough forward motion and to maintain a consistent pace throughout. “And to try not to hit anything and stay on course!” Scott laughs. “I always try plus my backs. This course, in my opinion, the back was a little wide, so it was a little easier to maneuver though. So I felt a lot more confident to show off that part of the pattern. So, it was a little more graceful. Also, the trot serpentine is always fun to try to plus, because it’s kind of cool from the spectator view.”
Earlier at the show, Scott and Hank were Reserve in Showmanship and third in Pleasure Driving, so they will be heading home after this class with a trophy in every color. But not before Bruce shows Hank in Senior Trail.
“I really don’t have a favorite class. If I had to choose one, I don’t think I could. I have to do them all. But, I would say top of the list is Trail, Showmanship, and Driving.”
Reserve in the class was Angela Stanhope with Feeling Lazy. Third was Susan Johns with Lopin For A Chex. Fourth was Heather Lange with Tell A Rosey Story. Fifth was Carla Townsley with PF Put It N Park.
