Spectators in Oklahoma City were treated to some high flying action this afternoon during the Amateur Working Hunter, Amateur Equitation Over Fences, and Amateur Jumping classes. First up, Chad Sandoval and Cool Man Jazz achieved a unanimous World Champion finish in a very competitive Amateur Working Hunter Class. The Reserve World Champion was Miller Henard with Twothousandmodel Te. Rounding out the top three was Morgan Parisek with Better Buy The Minit.
Although the winter temperatures had Sandoval feeling a bit under the weather, he and “Cool Man” put their best effort forward, and all their hard work and dedication paid off in the end.
“Everything is kind of a blur right now,” he says. “It’s been a long week, and this horse has been going for over a week now. He was pretty tired. He gave it all he had; I know he did. I’m very proud of him. He deserves this too. He’s been Reserve here four or five times, so this is actually his first win. It’s pretty cool.”
Cool Man Jazz was bred and raised by his longtime trainer, Jerry Erickson. He is an 11-year-old sorrel gelding by Do You Have A Minute and out of Sonnys Cool Jazz.
“He’s such a good horse,” Sandoval says. “Jerry raised him from a baby, and I showed him as a three and four-year-old. Then, we sold him when he was four, so it’s kind of nice getting the horse back.”
“I’m leasing him, and I would love to show him another season. There are some things that we didn’t get accomplished this year that I would like to accomplish next year with him.”
Earlier at the show, Sandoval and Cool Man placed fourth in Amateur Hunter Hack and were fifth in Amateur Equitation Over Fences just a few moments ago. Also, Erickson jumped in the stirrups to achieve an eighth place finish in Senior Working Hunter.
In the Amateur Equitation Over Fences, it was Miller Henard’s turn to take the top spot. She and her horse, TwoThousand Model Te, were Reserve in Amateur Working Hunter in the previous class. Then, they came right back in and were named the World Champions in Amateur Equitation Over Fences. The Reserve Champion in the class was Morgan Parisek with Better Buy The Minit. Rounding out the top three was Miranda Rogers Schaefer with Elusive Sky.
In the Amateur Jumping, the World Champion spot was determined by an exciting jump off between Raymond Coutley with Navier Stokes and Vicki McAngus with Knowtable Exception. In the end, Coutley and Navier Stokes had the fastest time and a clean run to claim the World Champion spot. The Reserve World Champion was Vicki McAngus with Knowtable Exception. Rounding out the top three was Bart Taylor with A Red Bird.
