Ross Roark once again found himself in the winner’s circle this morning at the 2013 AQHA World Show. He was at the lead of Kayotic for owner, Debby Brehm, and trainer, Denny Hassett. This yearling stallion is by Fearles and out of a Coolest mare [My Sweet Innocence].
It was actually the decision of Brehm’s daughter, Morgan, that led the family to purchase a halter horse stallion.
“When Morgan was in youth, she always wanted to show a stallion,” Brehm says. “But, you can’t, so she always showed geldings and mares. Now that she is an amateur, she said, ‘Ok, Mom, let’s show a stallion.’ So, we asked Denny if he would please find us one.”
“We were down at Lonn and Kathy Smallwood’s in February and found this horse. We thought he was worth taking a chance on, and we’ve been very fortunate.”
Since that time, Kayotic has won every futurity class he has been entered in, with the exception of one.
“He was second in the Open at the Congress, because he lost the tiebreaker,” she says. “Other than that, we’ve won them all. Morgan won the amateur there too. Then, I won the Select World, Morgan won the Amateur World, and Ross won the Open today. We had a little clean sweep!”
Brehm explained her decision to pick a very creative name for this young prospect.
“I kind of like the single word names,” she says. “I wanted something that was catchy, and, for a while, when he was showing he was pretty chaotic! He’s gotten to be really good. He loves to show. The older he gets and the more experience he gets in the pen, the better he shows. He has done very well the last couple of months as far as knowing his job, putting those ears up, and stretching his neck out.”
