Amateur exhibitor Robin Robinett is off to a great start at the APHA World Show, and she still has two horses left to show today. In the first class of the morning, Robinett led Cool Addiction to a World Championship finish in Amateur Weanling Stallions.
“Dexter” is a double-registered colt by Kid Coolsified that she purchased at the recent Breeders’ Halter Futurity.
“He was second in that Futurity in Iowa,” she says. “He is just a very balanced colt. He is a very correct colt with a lot of pretty. He is probably one of the quietest colts that I’ve shown, and he loves to show. He gets out there and parks it.”
Later on today, Robinett will show her 2-year-old gelding, Built Execute Tuff, and her 2-year-old stallion, Well Executed. Both of the horses, one out of Phenomenal Ms and one out of Pizzazzy Lady, are double-papered as well. Yesterday, Robinett led her 2-year-old mare, Cool Secrets N Lace, to a Reserve Championship finish.
Since Robinett generally specializes in showing younger halter horses, we wondered if she has any special tips or tricks for keeping the attention of a young horse in the pen.
“Fortunately for me, I’ve shown a lot of years in a lot of different aspects [of the industry],” she says. “I try to know where my judges are at all times, so, when they are all looking somewhere else, I try to let the horse down for 15-30 seconds and pet him. If I can, I try to give him a break and let him relax. Then, when I hear a judge coming, we’ve got to get back to showing again.”
All of Robinett’s halter horses are shown under the guidance of JT Mitchell Show Horses.
