Returning World Champion Deanna Green rode her trusty Palomino mare, Blazinmytroublesaway, to score a 231.5 securing another World Champion title in Western Riding. But, it wasn’t smooth sailing the whole way. After a slight misstep in the preliminaries yesterday, Deanna and “Buttercup” received a second chance at redemption in the shootout round.
“I had a little bobble yesterday,” Deanna says. “We hadn’t shown her a lot this year, so we knew going in that she may not be perfect. She showed really good; It was actually my error yesterday. She was just a little sticky in our second change.”
“Coming into today, I wanted to be better than yesterday. However it worked out, that would be ok. I went first yesterday, so I stayed dressed until the last ten horses. I was hoping I would at least make the shootout, because I really didn’t know.”
Today, Deanna and Buttercup were ready to show their stuff in the finals. “I think the shootout is a great thing to have, especially at this horse show where there are so many nice horses. It gives a nice horse, that had a little bobble, a chance to come back to the finals.”
“Buttercup was very good today. She was really bright, listened to me, and we never missed a step. I love that pattern. We had it last year for the finals. It’s different, because you don’t get to do it at a lot of horse shows.”
Now that the win picture has been taken and interviews have been conducted, Deanna and Buttercup have only a few moments rest before they go back in the pen for Horsemanship preliminaries. They’re draw #126. Although that doesn’t provide much time to switch gears for a new event, Deanna has a plan.
“I’m going to get changed, shorten my reins, and go do a pattern,” Deanna says. “She’s a mare and she’s a Palomino. She has her moments, but she was so good today. We’re going to go in there and have a good pattern.”
Later on in the show, this pair will compete in Trail and Showmanship. Deanna will also show Momma Knows Best in Western Pleasure. She will also be competing in Cutting with Smart Gypsy Merada under the guidance of Steve and Carol Metcalf.
This is the third Western Riding World Championship in a row for Deanna Green with Blazinmytroublesaway.
