Whether they’re designated as introductory, beginner, or rookie, shows that are dedicated to newcomers to the horse show world are gaining in popularity. Recently, the Texas Quarter Horse Association held their Introductory Show, December 8-9 in Bryan, Texas.
The event not only hosted AQHA classes but also a selection of open breed classes and plenty of free clinics. On Friday, competitors were treated to a free Ranch Riding clinic. On Saturday, there was a Showmanship clinic as well as a Hunt Seat Equitation “Ride the Pattern” clinic. Later in the day, exhibitors gathered for a Horsemanship “Ride the Pattern” clinic and Trail walk through clinic that came complete with showing tips.
The timing of these clinics was no accident. The schedule was designed so that the clinics took place just prior to the classes they covered. This allowed competitors the opportunity to utilize the knowledge they had just learned to better their performances.
Thanks to Farnam, prizes were awarded for first through sixth place in all classes as well as High Point awards for AQHA and Open classes. On Saturday, a breakfast was sponsored by Foster Performance Horses.
The High Point Champion in the AQHA Novice Youth division was Layla Clark with Zip Outta Town. The Reserve Champion was Sabine Lazo with Original Hottie. Winning the Open Youth High Point was Taylor Smith with Lopinin Chocolate. The Reserve Champion was Sabine Lazo with Original Hottie. The AQHA Novice Amateur High Point Champion was Julie Bass with Bear Naked Cowboy. The Reserve Champion was Laura Stevens with All The Above. The Open 19 and Over High Point Champion was Candice White with Any Given Moment. The Reserve Champion was Laura Stevens with All The Above.
