PHJ release by: Rachel Florman
Dedicated to growing the Paint Horse presence in high performance events, APHA has made it easier than ever for premier reining, cow horse and cutting Paints to qualify for and compete at the 2019 APHA World Championship Show. APHA has approved 28 National Reining Horse Association and 20 National Reined Cow Horse Association events to count toward qualification requirements for the APHA World Show.
Reining and Cow Horse Qualification
Qualifying for the APHA World Show is easy: just attend two APHA-approved events (which can include the ones noted below) during the qualifying period, June 1, 2018–June 3, 2019. If an exhibitor doesn’t attend at least two events for qualification, they can pay a $1,000 fee per show (up to $2,000) as “pay to play” World Show qualification. Only participation in the events—never points earned—factors into qualification.
The 2019 APHA World Show takes place September 16–29 in Fort Worth, Texas—immediately before the renowned NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity. The show also features Open and Non-Pro challenge classes that pay out more than $14,000 in added money to reined cow horses and more than $40,000 in reining events; the challenge classes do not require horses to qualify to compete, but qualification will allow a horse to participate in any event at the World Show, including world championship classes in any discipline.

APHA World Championship Show Cutting Events
Beginning in 2019, all APHA World Show cutting classes—Open, Amateur, Youth and Challenge events—will take place during the APHA Youth World Championship Show, held June 24–July 7 in Fort Worth, Texas. Qualifying is not required for 2019 World Show cutting events. Cutters will have additional opportunities to compete for cash in the ACHA Cowtown Cutting, which is held in conjunction with the Youth World Show and offers both all-breed opportunities and Paint-exclusive prizes.
