The first three halter classes of the morning are complete at the 2014 All American Quarter Horse Congress. First up in the Amateur Weanling Fillies, Ann Prince led PF Thatsmschrometou to her second Congress Championship title of the show. Last week, trainer Dewey Smith led “the Pepper filly” to a win in the Open Weanling Fillies class. This stunning filly is by the Prince’s stallion, Chromed Up, and out of That’s Miss Pizazz To You.

The Reserve Champion in the class was Josh Weakly with Sinceerly. Coming in third was Karen Johnson with Shez That Girl. Fourth place was Patricia Wiebenga with Cool Sierra Girl. Rounding out the top five was Marilee Montgomery with Sheza Starlet Hit.

Winning the limited division of the class was Karen Johnson with Shez That Girl. The Reserve Champion was Patricia Wiebenga with Cool Sierra Girl. Third place was Marilee Montgomery with Sheza Starlet Hit. Fourth place was Richard Peden with Shes Very Cool. Rounding out the top five was Amanda Lewis with Secrets N Liesz.

Prince and PF Thatsmschrometou also won The Equine Chronicle-sponsored Futurity and received a check for $2,900. Josh Weakly and Sinceerly received $2,088 for second place. Phillip Wilkinson and Shes Very Cool received $1,508 for third place.

Scott Trahan

Scott Trahan and Cool To Get Roses

In the Amateur Yearling Fillies class, Scott Trahan led Cool To Get Roses to a win. The Reserve Champion was Lori Gilbert with My Girl. Third place was Delbert Hostetler with Shez Showin Off. Fourth place was Josh Weakly with Cheers To Being Cool. Rounding out the top five was Anne Prince with PF Special Effects, who also won the Equine Chronicle-sponsored Futurity. The Reserve Champion in the Futurity was Janie Strahan with CL Cool Deception.

For Scott Trahan, this particular win is very special because “Rosie” is by his stallion, Very Cool.

“Her mother is out of Touchdown Kid, Cinnamon and Roses; she was by Touchdown and out of Sierras Priority, who has been a really great mare and producer,” Trahan says. “We bred her to my stud [Very Cool]. We took a chance; we bred N/N to N/N just hoping we could get enough muscle. She has that beautiful frame; she doesn’t overwhelm them with muscle; and she is structurally correct.”

The horseman in charge of fitting Rosie for the Congress is Roy Donn, a relatively new addition to Trahan’s program.

“Roy has come in and taken the program another step forward,” he says. “His years of experience show every day. He knows when to fit them and when to back off. It’s a sign of a good horseman.”

Coming up later today, Trahan will show a three-year-old mare by Very Cool. Then, later this week, he has a yearling gelding to show, also by the same sire.

Jeff Habighorst

Jeff Habighorst and Miss Kittee

The Amateur 2-Year-Old Mares class saw Jeff Habighorst claim a Congress Championship title with Miss Kittee. The Reserve Champion was Gerri Leigh Pratt with Secretz Galore; this pair was also the limited division winner. Third place was Chester Prince with PF Cha Ching. Fourth place was Angie Watts Schmeck with Cheerz. Rounding out the top five was Jim Payne with Yacool.
