Based on preliminary numbers, more than $90,000 is expected to be up for grabs in Platinum Breeders’ Futurity purses at the 2016 APHA World Championship Show—this is double the $44,500 Platinum purse payouts made in 2015.
We’re paying deep in five non-pro Platinum weanling halter classes, so now’s the time to make sure the World Show is on your show schedule for 2016.
For Regular Registry horses and solid Paint-breds with two Regular Registry Parents, classes are: Non-Pro Weanling Mares, Non-Pro Weanling Geldings and Non-Pro Weanling Stallions. Solid Paints without two Regular Registry parents can enter Non-Pro SPB Weanling Mares or Non-Pro SPB Weanling Stallions & Geldings.
The stallions currently slated for 2016 Platinum eligibility are:
Weanling foals sired by these stallions are eligible to participate in elite Platinum Division Breeders’ Futurity classes at the 2016 APHA World Show. The foals must be Breeders’ Trust nominated; owners must pay the Platinum mare nomination fee (all of which goes directly into the payout purse) and the Platinum class entry fee (which also goes into the purse, less a nominal administrative fee). Because these are Non-Pro classes, the exhibitor must be related to the horse owner/lessee per APHA Amateur division rules. Leases must be postmarked at least 90 days before the beginning of the show.
A total of 75% of the total Platinum purse will be paid out in the classes for Regular Registry and solid Paint-breds with two Regular Registry parents; 25% of the total purse will be paid out in the classes for solid Paint-breds without two Regular Registry parents.
Seventy-three mares are currently paid into the Platinum program, and owners of 36 foals have made their first payments—a trend that seems to indicate increased participation for 2016.
It’s not too late to make your foal eligible for these big-money classes—simply pay the mare nomination fee and the late entry fee for the class, and your foal gets the chance to cash in at the World Show.
