The Georgia Paint Horse club hosted the 2021 Zone 9 APHA Southern Classic in Perry, GA. Despite the cold and rainy weather, there were GREAT numbers, even BETTER food, and FANTASTIC prizes. Exhibitors came from many states (FL, NC, SC, TN, TX, LA, NY, and KY) to participate in this six-judge show held in the Perry National Fairgrounds climate controlled Perdue Arena.
The Georgia Paint horse club appreciates all of the behind the scenes volunteers and staff who work so hard to make these shows so successful. Thanks to a great set of judges: Dean Bogart, Clint Fullerton, Sonnesa Gooding, Garth Gooding, Lisa Ligon, and Rob MeNeely. Exhibitors enjoyed complimentary breakfasts and dinners sponsored by vendors and exhibitors. Judy Crim of Judy’s Sweets and Treats also prepared her wonderful sweets and treats for all the exhibitors to enjoy.
The highlight of the weekend was the memorial award given in memory of longtime APHA member Mary Ellen James, who lost her fight with cancer in 2020. This award was presented by longtime friends, Sue and Phil Drawdy, and was awarded to the highest pointed Halter gelding. Mary Ellen enjoyed showing Halter horses, especially her geldings. The winner of the coveted award was Mary Ellen James’ good friend, Judy Baum, of Pinellas Park, FL.
Thanks so much to all our show sponsors: Blake Carney of Carney Performance Horses, Julie Graves/Stonecrest Performance Horses, Kevin Marcus Garcia, A Bit More and Allison Scott, Elizabeth Spike Brewer/Brewer Family, All That Show Clothing, Kathy Williams Tail Extensions, Glamorous Threads Riding Apparel, Jean’s Custom Show Fashions, Gregg Cofield/Shannon Kale Cofield, Judy Baum, Tracey Rogers, Boo Yah Custom Clothing, Ceralena Gray/Jeremy Price of JC Show Horses, Janet Kennedy, Brandi King, Billy Korsack, and Lindsay Singleton Mcknight.
