PHJ press release by: Alannah Castro
The Breeders Halter Futurity had a chromatic landscape again this year, featuring plenty of Paints among its winners crowned September 10–13 in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Breeders Halter Futurity is one of the richest halter competitions in the world, featuring deep cash awards in Open and Non-Pro halter classes. Offering classes for weanlings through 2-year-old horses, the Breeders Halter Futurity is open to Paints, Quarter Horses and Appaloosas sired by participating stallions.
“We only breed three or four mares a year, so we make sure that one or two of our mares are bred to Breeders Halter Futurity stallions,” said Andrea Olsen, whose fillies Oh So Intriguing (pictured above) and My Secret Dream brought home nearly $30,000 from the show. “They’ve done a great job creating an environment that makes you want to bring your horses and compete with the big dogs, so to speak. Even though you might not win it, you can still take home a sizable check and feel proud about what you’ve done.
“Competition always serves to make you better, and I know it’s made my program better. It’s really neat to be able to go to this show and see an industry-wide representation of stock horse breeds.”
Standout Paints include Intentional Ruby, who won Youth Mares; Oh So Intriguing, who placed second in Amateur Weanling Fillies; Inferno, who placed second in Junior Weanling Colts and Geldings, and Creatted, who placed second in Yearling Stallions.
Congratulations to all of the Paints who competed at the Breeders’ Halter Futurity, especially those placing in the Top Five, noted below. For complete results, head over to breedershalterfuturity.com and its sister site, nationalhalterchampionship.com.
