Annually, APHA offers three contests that recognizes outstanding Youth members and clubs for their involvement with their community and AjPHA. Since many events and activities have had to be canceled due to COVID-19, the application deadline for these awards will be November 1, 2020.

Another commonly overlooked reason a horse may become poisoned is allowing horses to graze a pasture after it has been sprayed with herbicide, but before the weeds have died and disappeared.

He will be honored at the convention, along with the Hall of Fame Class of 2020, whose induction was postponed due to the cancellation of the 2020 AQHA Convention.

The Merrills received AQHA’s 50-Year Breeder Award in 2018, and Frank was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2013.
Continue reading …Due to the uncertainty of the worldwide coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, AQHA leadership has made the decision to cancel the AQHA VRH World, RHC Finals, Cattle Level 1 and NRSHA National Championships for the safety and well-being of exhibitors, trainers, spectators and staff. Several factors went into the consideration of this decision, including but not limited to the health and safety of attendees; local, state and federal government guidelines and mandates; the potential economic impact the coronavirus will have on our members as this situation evolves; and shelter-in-place orders that have prevented exhibitors from competing with their horses leading up to the event. Feedback was also gathered directly from NRSHA alliance partners. In addition, AQHA disseminated a survey to AQHA exhibitors, who were qualified for the event, to gather additional feedback.
Continue reading …Over the course of three weeks through a process called odor imprinting, the dogs will be exposed to COVID-19 positive saliva and urine samples in a laboratory setting. Once the dogs learn the odor, the investigators will document that the dogs can discriminate between COVID-19 positive and COVID-19 negative samples in a laboratory setting, establishing the platform for testing to determine if the dogs can identify COVID-19 infected people. The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Chemical Biological Center will be lending their expertise during the study as well.
