The first horse became ill in late August, showing neurologic signs and was humanely euthanized. The other two became ill over Labor Day weekend and are still being treated by a veterinarian.

They hailed from Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland; the hometown crowd from Germany fielded the greatest number of horses. German Paints also claimed the greatest number of medals, taking home 37 golds, 25 silvers and 23 bronzes.

The FHMHS provides a time to reflect, a time to visit with old friends, a time to educate young people about the history of the equine industry and those who have supported it. Most of all, the FHMHS is a time to remember the more than 70 horsemen and women who have been honored at this event over the last four years.
